Part of the problem is that it's a tale that has been fabricated to further the book sales and websites of a lot of people who really dont' believe what they're talking about either. Everybody from Tsarion to Raidin jumps on the bandwaggon and says 'things' are going to happen because it keeps them in the frame and allows them to weave their own nonsense into the 2012 theme. Nobody has come up with a definite answer about what will happen in 2012 apart from a handful of woo-woos (sorry woo-woos everywhere, but it has to be said ) who talk about a 'shift'. There have been countless claims (many in this and the last century) that the world was 'about to change' when nothing has happened.

Would you care to take a gentlemen's bet on it all, after defining exactly what's meant to take place?

the whole reason the mayans thought shit was gonna end is because every 20,000 yrs our system like orbits the galaxy and on dec 21, 2012 the sun and earth will be aligned with the center of the galaxy, and then the next 20,000 yr cycle of bad shit will happen..thats just how shit works..a new dawning a new age of disasters and miracles will begin...thats just the way shit works...(thank god for the universe show on history)

i have no solid idea what WILL happen aside from what science has been able to predict (galactic allignment... period.) what happens on top of that is anyone's guess but i find it kinda funny that there are so many "experts" that swear up and down that what they believe is the honest truth. i'm not saying nothing's going to happen but neither am i going to say what will happen. reason? nobody knows what the future will bring because human beings haven't been able to figure out a way to reliably see the future.

We are miniscule, I doubt "The Universe" has a conscious such as to destroy us on moral grounds, thats quite superstitious. Even if we do get destroyed or destroy ourselves, there are untold benefits for most other life on earth to not have a dominant consumerist species dominating their lives.

Having studied a lot of Mayan culture and traveling to a lot of the archeological sites in college I'm pretty sure all that's going to happen is the Mayan Calendar restarting. Go read some scholarly research on the subject and stop listening to people that have no clue about the Mayan Calender or culture. The people advocating these end of the world theories are the same people that believe that aliens are responsible for the ruins in the Yucatan and southern Mexico. (i.e. Erich Von Daniken)

Go talk to some actual Mayan people (yeah they're still around) and they'll tell you the same thing.

Edit; All those ruins are well within human capabilities, we just haven't figured out the design of some of the tools they used yet, which is making people go all bat shit crazy with conspiracies. The only conspiracy for ancient aliens I've ever even come CLOSE to believing in was the shit with the mountains at Nazca (not nescessarily the lines themselves) where these mountains have been flattened, nearly perfectly, and the missing rubble is absolutely no where to be found. We're talking huge amounts of dirt and stone, just completely gone. Can't find any suitable pictures, though.

Most of the above facts are lies that Hancock, Jackson and Tsarion (and Sitchin too to some degree) have made up to sell the 2012 idea - it has no factual basis at all. The centre of the galaxy isn't going to line up with anything, please read the link below. It's a conversation between astronomers and the like and Jackson, where he's trying to defend the nonsense he has spread. It's a long read, but you'll see where most popular ideas have come from. I don't begrudge you any of it or think you foolish to believe it, there's so much about it on the net and media that it is easy to get drawn in. But it's hype designed to sell books and nothing more. It doesn't stand up historically as far as the Mayans go, or astronomically in the real world universe.
