Probability Cloud. String Theory. Physics

My chemistry professor brought up the idea of a probability cloud along with the string theory.
He didn't really go into any detail on them, but the idea just completely stumped me... can anyone actually describe what it is? I googled it, but it was too scientific for me. It really interests me, but I don't quite understand it..

Re: Probability Cloud. String Theory. Physics

well im not to sure about the probability cloud, but as for the string theory maybe i can clear some stuff up for you. Basicly all it is saying is that time and space is on a string that can bend and warp itself to essentially overlap at times. These "overlaps" are what people call worm holes. This is becasue two completley seperate places in time and space connect at this single point which would enable you to jump from one place in time and space to another with just a small movement in the space time continuom. Kinda making sence?? hope so this stuff is really crazy to think about

He's probably talking about the electron orbit cloud. It's impossible to measure the velocity and location of an electron accurately, I think because of the Heisenberg uncertainty principle, its a model that represents where the electron could be in its orbit around the nucleus

i think this and the part about string theory is that "they" say the atoms are actually tiny strings "wraped" in a loop so small we don't/can't see them. I tryed to find the video but it's been a while ;/ From what i remember of it, "they" had the theory that that is where all the interesting numbers come from (ex. i, e, pi etc), the strings making up various things resonated at those numbers.

Re: Probability Cloud. String Theory. Physics

Simply put, things are not things really. They are vibrations of energy ribbons, and they vibrate in sub dimensions which requires 7 more dimensions, it's kinda hard to visualize. Essentially, the ribbon vibrates within an "area" and is at all places in that area when unobserved. When observed the ribbon peaks and the energy snaps into a single place, but it is impossible to know for sure all the characteristics of the wave-particle because observation changes it.
