Global warming myth

Hey everyone, This wouldn't be a science and nature thread without this hot topic, now would it?


What are your thoughts on global warming? Apocalyptic, better weather? Not even real?


My view is that the current data we have now in no way suggest the crisis the media portrays. Al Gore's movie was pretty much a joke packed full of lies.

i figured this forum to have less conservatives that live in their own little world instead of the real world. In my opinion global warming is very real. I do not care about the environment and actually enjoy having a longer growing season and 70 degree weather in january in northern Ohio is also nice. You guys should watch more than one movie about global warming because Al Gores was a little overdone. It is not a weather pattern thats natural. I think the majority of the reason is coal burning rather than automobiles

While I do believe the climate is changing an global warming (not the name, but the effects) are happening. Whether we're to blame AND wehther it's going to be a giant crisis for humans is another question. But based on just the science, it's hard to deny the changes.

Please explain to me how the greenhouse effect is causing a rise in temperature. The greenhouse effect is 99% due to water, not co2. How is a rise in this small amount of minor interacting gas, is responsible for a large, globally devastating weather change.

We've done alot fo damage to this earth, don't get me wrong, its just the current theory on what is causing global warming makes absolutely no sense. Many physicists are starting to speak out against this too. The environmentalist see what they want and create the scenario.

They base global warming on a 0.5°C change in the past 100 years. Now thats fine and dandy, but what the hell does "average global temperature mean?" Did they actually measure the temperature every inch of the globe? How high did they go, how often? Did they go over the ocean?

If article disputing would actually put their error bars on their graphs proving global warming, no one would listen to them. I am serious here, the average global temperature, based on how we measure it, is like + or - 5°C. And thats using today's technology, not 100 years ago, where I am sure it was many folds higher. You realise that this "global average temperature" makes no sense to even measure.

So a 0.5°C increase in temperture huh?

If Al Gore had any credibility, he would have turned down the Nobel due to the simple fact that he met none of the criteria and there were others more deserving. And if he had any credibility he would have never accepted an Oscar.

I really don't know if it's being caused by the reasons it's portrayed to be caused, however regardless of whether is global warming I still think we need alternative fuel sources and more environmentally friendly forms of energy.

Although i beleive that oil is a renewable source of energy and will never completely run out, i think that the population growth and technology advances are growing faster than the pools of oil can replenish.
With that said i do think we should look towards alternative fuels, but more along electric and nuclear. Ethanol, is not the answer.

Hey man, slow down. I'm probably one of the LEAST conservative people on here and I believe that Global Warming is a big fraud. When special interests can no longer scare us with war, what can they do? They can make people antagonize themselves. "The world is burning up and it's your fault." Yet ice core samples from Greenland show periods in the past warmer then today.

The science is flawed and incomplete, please research before you go waving your liberal flag around, you give them a bad name.

I am certain that humans have contributed to a drastic increase in certain volatile atmospheric gases, not too mention the massive pollution of the planet's water supply. There have been trends that tend to show a general increase in worldwide average temperature corresponding with the beginning of the Industrial Revolution until now.

Unfortunately that is far from enough evidence to say that humans have singlehandedly caused the temperature increase. There was mini ice age that lasted until about the beginning of industry which could mean we are in a natural warming period.

There are numerous other natural variables to consider that may result in a global warming:
Orbital variations, solar variations, interstellar variations, internal geophysical variation, natural ocean temperature variations, etc.

I believe humans have had, at the least, a slight impact due to the temperature/industry chronology. I fail to see any proof that we are the sole cause. In fact, I doubt it can be proven. We can't even predict the weather 3 days in advance and we expect to understand the atmospheric and temperature history over billions of years? That is why I believe scientists are tending not to support the theory of man-made global warming. Scientists need physical proof and it will be hard to come by.



By the way, I fully support cleaner energy and better environmental practices. Even if we somehow prove that humans do not play a major factor in global warming, we should still be environmentally friendly. Humans have destroyed most of the planets natural habitats and we continue to push species to the brink of extinction. There are many effects human industry has had on nature that can easily be seen and proven, why not at least address these? By doing so, that would reduce our overall effect on the planet eliminating human contribution to global warming, however small or large that may be.

I'm not even gonna touch this thread, I don't know nearly enough about the subject to fight it.

Alls I have to say is that global warming may be bullshit, but something about our climate seems to be changing, and hey it wouldn't hurt to care a bit more about the environment.

No, i haven't. I agree with you on the giant myth that global warming is anything other than a natural occurrence in the earths cycle. Ethanol is about stupid, it actually cost more to produce than its worth, its causing massive price hikes on everything grain related, including beef, pork and all other animals that exist on a grain based diet.
