A hundred years ago man was still shitting in a shack in the yard. And now look at the technology available. Can you imagine what technology will be available in a hundred years from now. I beleive nuclear is the way to go, and with technological advances in the science will make it last well beyond 100 years. I also think they will eventually look towards mining planets and space. I also think that will start in the near future, say 25 years.

Say we have 1 gallon of water in a bucket. The water weighs approximately 3.6 kg so m = 3.6 kg. c is the speed of light and c = 300,000,000 meters/second. The total energy the mass contains is 3.6*300,000,000^2 = 1,080,000,000 kg*m^2/s^2 = 1,080,000,000 Joules. The largest current container ship in the world has a mass of m=156,907,000 kg and a top speed of v=13.1 m/s. A rough estimate of the kinetic energy of the ship is E = 0.5*m*v^2 = 13,463,405,135 Joules. 1 gallon of water at rest: 1,080,000,000 Joules 1 container ship at top speed: 13,463,405,135 Joules Last edited by AlphaQ : 03-22-2008 at 11:49 PM. That would seem an obvious solution, but those in charge would rather desperately throw money at the ever-depleting oil supplies.
