Both gravitational mass, and inertial mass are equal. These are completely independent of each other. So the force from an accelerated mass, and the gravitational force both have the constant m, but their meanings are different.

I'm saying that there are two different "meanings" of what mass is. for collisions, force=m*acceleration, and gravity, F=GmM/r.

Both those m's are entirely independent of each other. there is no fundamental theorem linking them. However, when measured, they are both of equal value.

the fact that we have no idea what mass is, that acceleration force and gravity mechanisms have not been liked together, yes it is very strange.

True, we're still searching for that elusive mass. Or Higgs Boson if one want to get technical. But regardless of what we find mass to be, it do not demand that mass should behave differently in two different functions, do it now?

On the contrary, that mass do have the same value in two different approaches to understanding functions of nature, could it not be said to confirm the value mass represent in both. Indirect yes, but as long as it is not incorrect neither with regards to velocity or gravity, we're on the right track, no?

Read up on the Principal of Equivalence. Einstein indeed found a relation between gravitational mass and accelerated mass. Truly classic Einstein as he marries two seemingly unrelated phenomena with a simple explanation.
