Evolution - Origins of the First cell?

Where did the first cell come from which managed to reproduce and set off this amazing reaction which ended up coming to producing us?

No one really knows, but the majority of scientists think that there wasn't a first cell per se, but that a body of water containing free floating RNA, amino acids, and lipids came first which acted as a kind of primitive cell.

Current models suggest that the first life forms were simple RNA molecules that could have formed spontaneously, then catalyzed their own reproduction. Look into abiogenesis for more.

It's marvelous nonetheless, but evolution has moved from single atoms, to compounds, to molecules, to proteins, to cells, to a conscious and sentient being... and who knows where to next.

There was an experiment done that concluded that amino acids, a critical part of life, could be produced from the natural conditions on prehistoric Earth. I think that different parts of the cell developed, and then somehow they came together and formed something functional. And then it was just evolution, the stronger cells survived and just kept mutating and growing and it was crazy.

yeah I remember that experiment

they pretty much found that it really isnt hard to create the basic building blocks of life

for anyone really interested in the subject look up astrobiology, pretty interesting

wouldn't this mean, that in turn, other substances we're not aware of, on different planets could do the same thing over a period of time?

that's pretty interesting.

Yea, the experiment was by Stanly Miller and Harold Uray and it showed that the 4 elements found in space: Water, Methane, Ammonia, an Hydrogen gas could produce more complex proteins and amino acids..or RNA when combined with electricity.. aka lightning.

All living cells, Plant and Animal are similar in that they are surrounded by a double phospholipid layer. You can see that when phospholipids come together in nature they produce a sphere which seperates the interior from the exterior. The theory is that over billions of years.. the area within the phospholipid layer developed into a single celled organism.. which then "Ate" let's say a photosynthetic Bacterium which rather than being digested was kept within the cell and even passed on to offspring.. thus the first plant cell.

not sure if I believe every word of that myself but thats what a lot of biologists say.

There is also another popular theory that could fit in here..

one of the most basic living types of cells are called Prokaryotes, they have a unique characteristic called Protective Endospores.. which means that when the living conditions are rough and the cell is going to die (most likely do to dryness) the cells nucleus which contains it's DNA produces a hard covering that protects the DNA even if the organism dies.

Scientists have discovered that even after millions of years if that nucleus is put back in a livable environment it will begin to reproduce again. Still doesn't explain where the cell came from but a lot of people believe a meteorite or something similar brought life to the earth rather than it developing here.

But I dont really know shit about it.. just my 2 cents.

What kind of dumb question is that? Evolution is a billion year long process.
