Video File The Bonobos: Apes That Write


This is simply amazing, utterly fascinating, and thoroughly enjoyable! I am willing to say that we are not alone . These writing apes are not us, they will not be building skyscrapers anytime soon, but they are closer to us than most people realize, and closer than many would care to admit. Working with those chimps would be my idea of a pretty cool job. I hope you enjoy watching it as much as I did.

I think one of the things that struck me early on in the video was that she casually said to the Bonobo that she had a lighter in her pocket, then said that he could take it out if he wanted and he did, he responded as though he actually understood what she was saying - and seemed to at various other points in the movie too. Incredible stuff and well worth watching.

Thank you for posting that. I loved the part with the lighter and I was pronouncing bonobo as banobo, which just didn't work. I made a mistake and I will live to rue it.
