Idea for Dry-Ice Cooled Water Bong

I've been looking around at schematics and whatnot for different ways to cool the smoke before it gets into your lungs. Then one day while I was loading up a small water bong I have with water and ice, I thougt wouldn't it be a great idea to just drop some dry ice into the water instead of regular ice... Then I realized that the smoke that's produced from water and dry ice is basically pure CO2, which wouldn't be great to inhale straight into your lungs because it would put you out of breath really quickly while inhaling... So I came up with this idea while I was browsing around at Home Depot today... When I first used a water bong, I wasn't to impressed because granted the smoke wasn't hot as it usually is from a pipe, but it definitely wasn't cold... So with this idea, not only is it getting double filtration but the smoke should be pretty damn cold when it comes out... I bought all the parts necessary for it and I'm just looking for any suggestions you guys might have... Right now I'm not even sure if it's going to work but it's a fairly simple concept so any comments/suggestions would be greaty appreciated. Thanks in advance

*edit* for anyone out there who's good at chemistry, another problem I found is that when you mix dry ice with water, it's an exothermic reaction which means that the dry ice will still be cold but it will be giving off heat into the water... a solution would be to not add water inside the copper tube with dry ice, and i think the copper tube core would still get pretty damn cold even without the water and only dry ice, but i'm not quite sure

Sounds like you have thought this through enough!
But seriously, it seems like a nice idea. When a home made piece can be THAT nice, then you are a seriously useful person.
2 questions: 1)Why salt water?
2) What is "ABS"?

Also, I don't think it would be usefull to keep the dry ice in water sealed away from the rest of the salt water with the copper tube.

Yeah, summer is coming up and I'm basically looking for anything to do to keep me occupied haha

1) salt water because it has a lower freezing point so just incase the copper tube gets insanely cold it won't start to freeze the water surrounding it in the tube on the right

2) ABS is just a different, strong type of PVC tube, it's not really significant, I just thought I would throw it in there

Well the idea of keeping it sealed away goes back to the whole thing where I wouldn't want to be inhaling the dry ice smoke into my lungs. So I have it in the copper tube there in hopes that the copper tube will get extremely cold and cool the water down to an extremely low temperature more so than any ice cubes in water would.

You have this thought out.

I am exactly like you too bro. Since summer is here, I have attempted 3 different expiremental bongs/pipes. 2 of them are decent, but 1 just sucked, Tell me if your idea works, and I will probably try to create my own!

As far as I know, no reaction is occuring. The dry ice just just melting faster because water conducts heat better than air. The dry ice still cools (and freezes) the water. If you don't believe me, drop a chunk of dry ice into a cup of cold water- it'll bubble and smoke for a bit, but then the water will freeze around the dry ice, giving it a coating of normal ice... eventually breaking and doing the bubbling thing again because the pressure from the gas breaks the normal ice.

awesome, that's what i thought originally... even if it is exothermic, i really cant picture the water not being extremely cold lol... thanks for the help

*bump* before i go to bed

I started cutting the pipes down to size tonight, i'm going to start the harder drilling parts tomorrow afternoon... I bought some water-tight kitchen and bath silicone glue to seal up everything that needs to be sealed... I'll be posting pictures along the way, thanks for the help so far

HANDLING:
Dry Ice temperature is extremely cold at -109.3°F or -78.5°C. Always handle Dry Ice with care and wear protective cloth or leather gloves whenever touching it. An oven mitt or towel will work. If touched briefly it is harmless, but prolonged contact with the skin will freeze cells and cause injury similar to a burn.
Yeah, I highly doubt you put it in your mouth.

i don't know for sure but i think it is a bit dangerous to use dry ice in a bong, it has been discussed before, i don't seee why ice, just ice doesnt work good enough. I mean if you want it really cool just put some water in the freezer, and your bong , then let it all get cold as balls take it out put the cold water into the cold bong, fill with ice and rip it up. Sounds like that would be pretty cool to me and not any risks involved, but do what you wish bro, and the bong is a good idea build it and post some pics. JOE>

i see one thing thaT could be a serious problem, and that is the mouth piece, it looks like it would have your forehead/nose over the CO2 exhaust pipe, which means a frozen forehead or CO2 in ur nose
