i have bad news but need advice (please read)

hey gc,

i'm afraid i have bad news.
well, for about the past five years, my grandmother has lived with me and my parents. she is now about 92 and doing well for her age. she is not what i would consider 'confused' and she has a keen mind for her age. for about the past 15 years she has had problems with her eyes and she has to take a regiment of prescription eye drops for her condition.

one of her problems is glaucoma. she has been having more problems seeing recently so my father (her son) took her to the doctor and she was diagnosed w/ macular degeneration which i believe means she will soon go blind. also the interocular eye pressure was way up.

my parents are full aware that i smoke weed and are fine with it (there only objection is that it is illegal and they are afraid i could get into trouble). i have done extensive research on the medical properties of the herb. i have therefore been advacating that my grandmother should be allowed to use it for her glaucoma condition (also i feel confident it can help her in other ways because she has body pain and a really poor appitite, both ailments have been shown to be effectively treated my mj).

now, i have asked my grandmother about what her position on the issue is and she said she would do it except for the fact that it's illegal and she refuses to do anything against the law.

my parents support my position now and they feel they could talk her into it. so i have need advice on a few issues:

1. sometimes when i smoke my heart rate increases, occasionally to an uncomfortable degree. my grandmother has a heart condition that she takes meds for. do you all think it would be a bad idea for her to smoke w/a heart condition.

2. she does not want to do it because it's agaisnt the law and she's convinced she'd get caught and go to jail. (imagine a cop taking an elderly 92 year old sick lady to jail; on second thought a pig would do it in an instant w/o hesitating; ya'll remember that quadrapeligic that went to jail for medical mj). so i'm afraid she would have a paranoid mindset before she smoked it then the mj would exaserbate her paranoia and it would be a very negative experience.

so please give me some advice here. i'm so thankful i have a place where i get get advice on this issue.

I would reccomend against it. If her health wasnt so bad, it'd be different, but having her smoke will probalby do more harm than good. Also, if she against it, she shouldnt be made to. But then again, its her decision, and you only live once.

I would say "Yes", with a "but".

I would *not* give her near the amount that we all smoke recreationally. I find that for simple pain relief and appetite enhancement, even a half puff helps greatly without getting high.

But I'm not a doctor, I don't really know the negative side effects that MJ would have on old age. So don't take my word for much of anything.

bake a small amount (maybe .25 grams) into a firecracker. the onset will be slower, it won't be bad for her lungs, and .25g's of weed never killed or hurt anyone... she should be fine...

the whole heart rate issue is a bit scarry. that would leave me a bit skeptical. i mean personally my heart rate only goes up if i get paranoid smoke too much. my belief would be that it would help her as long as its moderated. id recomend (im not a doctor) nothing too strong. not shwagg but some decent mids. dank might be a bit much. because she is so old smoking it is out of the question. bake it in something or use tea.

as for convincing her, thats hard. just assure her she wont get caught. espically if shes that age

This is an issue you should consult a physican about. I know there are places on the web and even places that you can call for medical information this is 100% anonymous.

I'm sorry to hear about her condition. Best wishes to her health.

Besides the heart condition, i think that it could be benefical to her, from a situational stand-point.

This is a coincidence. I was watching "Robson Arms" last night (sitcom on comedy network.... ionno if it's shown in United States) and this guy gets him grandma high with his friends. It was interesting. The friends answers the door and says "Man... it's one thing to get your dog high...". Haha!

First off, i hope whatever you do take the advice on the forums with a grain of salt...and before you decide anything you should have her medically examined and screened to be a medical marijuana patient (assuming your state has that)

Im not sure if im allowed to post links to informative marijuana laws, so google: norml - what comes up should be a site on the laws, regulations for MJ in your state


If you live in california, it is much easier to obtain a Medical Marijuana card then youd think, and if she has glaucoma i know for a fact (assuming she is healthy enough) that she would be eligible.
I know 2 buddies who got cards because they have "insomnia" or atleast they say they do.

Also, you might get hooked up and be a cultivator for your grandma, which would give you the legal rights to grow 6 plants for her. YOu would also have to be approved, but i know from my experience that if your grandma is approved, you would be too (not to smoke, just to grow...but hell you smoke anyway so youd get to grow legally, smoke illegally )....oh yea and a doctor will run tests and screen her to make sure she is right for taht treatment (the doctors are often very pro MJ, so if shes fit to do it they will give it to her)


Everything i said is based on California MMJ laws, not sure what other states are like. Itd cost your grandma about $150 to become a patient, she'd be 100% legal in california to smoke and buy pot (from the clubs)

NO TO SMOKING!!! There are other, much safer ways of administering THC. Make some butter then just make some muffins or cookies or something.
