Metals... Bad?

Are metals really bad to smoke out of? I've heard a lot about aluminum being pretty bad to use but I also hear that it's ok. Does anyone really know? I'd like to make a homemade bong but I don't want to use a type of metal if it's bad for me.

And yes I know I'll be smoking weed out of it and it's probably just as bad for me but I'd rather not double my chances of hurting my health... if that makes any sense.

I'm pretty sure aluminum can be toxic (can cause alzheimers?!) so I'd probably try to find another material to use. It might be best to avoid metal completely and just use a plastic bottle or whatever. Wouldn't wanna risk getting sick from it.

I don't know the specifics, but I think it's something to do with the metal oxidizing with the heat of the flame, or just burning off fumes. Anyway I know that brass doesn't do that, so it'd be safe, also stainless steel seems to be fine. But do stray from aluminum, it doesn't taste right anyway, and with a torch lighter you can end up burning right through it, and that's no good at all.

I hope I've helped a bit, and if I'm wrong on anything someone correct me, I like to learn.

Brass hah? Does brass come in tubing like copper and such does? That'd be perfect.

Not true, my first and only pipe is metal with skulls running down the chamber, and it gives a nice clean good tasting feeling. Metals is fine, I like it. AND it has a cap so you can pack that shit, screw on a cap and put it in your pocket.

I'll give you a step in the right Direction, to make a desent bowl if your going all homemade, id use one of the larger sockets from a socket wrench set as a bowl. then take a screen and cut to fit, you want a tight fit but dont worry to much, the resin hold it down alot. teehee big text

-ps if you can think of a better bowl thats common is home, do tell... mabye a odd bolt or something. just clean the stuff before you use it

i dont do metals, im a glass smoker (and sometimes aliminum.) YOu can use steel or brass.

The only thing not safe about aluminium is the stuff they put on aluminium cans. So if you buy an aluminium pipe from say, GrassCity, you'll be fine. But if you smoke out of a soda can you'll get some toxins. I wouldn't worry too much, just don't use a can unless you have to. A few hits from a can isn't going to hurt you, but if you make a habit of it you may get sick.

You'd also be smoking the paint on the cans as well, so probably not a great idea. Just get a glass pipe for like $10.

I don't know anything technical about smoking out of metal lol. All I know is one time I smoked just 2 hits out of my friends metal pipe and my afternoonn turned into a hellish bad time. Threw up twice.. made me want to stop smokin but the next day I smoked a good old phillie and made me realize it wa sthe metal lol.

theres a sticky in this very section of the forums!!!! alluminum can give off fumes that could cause alzheimers IF!!!! its heated high enough... a normal flame lighter cannont heat alluminum or any metal for that fact to give off fumes.... a torch will though.... obviously dont go using lead or anythihng..... the only real thing that people use to make pipes out of that will burn from a regular flame is jb weld, pvc tubing, any plastics.....
