I went to a local head shop yesterday and picked up a small glass CCG pipe for $10. I didn't have any weed yesterday, and I wanted to see how she hit so I put some tobacco in her, and I noticed that she started turning blue after I hit it a few times. So I'm wondering, I read here somewhere that the resin from weed causes the color to change, yet the color is changing on this pipe without any weed in it. Does tobacco resin also do it? Or any heated tar-like substance? I'll post pics later when I'm at home.

Im not 100% sure, but I would say that it dosent matter what you smoke in it the resin will change the colour.

tobacco has tar and shit in it. that's why filters turn yellow after you smoke cigarettes.

Right, which is why I'm asking if it's the resin (tar) from tobacco causes the glass to change, or if it's something else like heat or ash.

Ys, The tar and crap from the tobacco also creates resin, which is why your pipe will change color, because of the resin. It matters nt what kind of resin is in there .

it turns colors because your smokin out of it, anything smoked out of it will change its colors, because of heat...

I think I finally found my answer from ask.com: Anything that makes the inside darker (tar, resin) will make the colors show up more. See, I wasn't sure what causes CCG to change colors, but apparently it doesn't actually change colors, you just see them better when the inside is built up with resin.

There's the detail ...... Small pieces of metal (usually silver and/or gold) are held in the flame of the torch until vaporized (often called 'fuming'). The glass is rotated in this vapor stream until a fine layer of the vaporized metal is visible on the surface of the glass. After this, clear glass is applied (often in 'dots' and 'lines') to 'encase' the vaporized metal in between layers of glass. There are many techniques and methods of applying the fumes and clear glass making a myriad of different colors, and endless types of patterns that one can come up with. The colors produced with fumed metals are best when they are translucent, vibrant, and reflective. As the pipe darkens with use, the colors (many barely visible) become darker and much more conspicuous, thus causing the appearance of 'color change' (the glass doesn't really change colors though).

Eh, a tiny bowl of tobacco isn't going to hurt it. Plus I smoke ciggs irregularly so I obv. don't mind the smell/taste.

I will say though, that tobacco smells soooo much worse than weed. The only time my roommate complains about the smell is when I smoke tobacco.

It's anything dark that makes the colors show up more. If you're checking out a piece, wear a black shirt/hoodie or whatever... Hold the piece against the black shirt/hoodie/whatever and you'll see what you can expect after a while of tokage
