Makin brownies: my experience
So Spring Break was last week, and i wanted to do something different. I spent the weeks leading up to it reading all i could on making pot brownies.
Basically, i just made enough cannabutter for one batch of brownies. I filled a big pot with water, and then put a smaller pot inside of it, suspended. Then, i melted 1 stick of butter (1/2 cup) and added 1/4 ounce of weed (schwagg, low quality, broken up, no seeds or stems). I let it simmer for a little less than an hour, stirring occasionally.
I had read that it can smell pretty strong, (and it was at my parents house, they were out of town), so i opened the doors, a couple windows, and turned on a fan. There wasn't much smell in the house, but what there was smelled pretty good. I did leave the windows open for the next couple days to let it fully air out before the parents got home.
I had read online that straining out the weed with a coffee filter is really messy, and takes forever. Well i didn't have anything else to use (most recommend "cheesecloth"), so i took a coffee filter, and poked about a hundred really small holes in the bottom of it with a needle. This worked really well when i poured the butter/weed in. It was messy when squeezing the last of the butter out of the weed, but for the most part it worked really well.
The butter itself was tinted green, and smelled pretty good, but tasted like shit. I don't think i'd ever just put it on toast or anything.
From there, you can use the butter in pretty much any recipie. I found a nice brownie recipie that called for pre-melted butter, which is nice because otherwise you should probably stick it in the fridge overnight so it can solidify.
The brownies came out, and they did smell and taste different (like weed), but not too much, and not too bad. They didn't make me choke or anything.
The brownies were made in a 8" x 8" pan, and i cut them into 16 pieces, 2" x 2" squares. That may seem small (it did to me too, but a bunch of people wanted some, and I still wanted some left for myself), but they pack a punch.
I ate one, and after about an hour, i ate another one (180lb male, regular smoker). Soon after i ate the second one, they started to kick in. I ended up being more stoned that I have ever been with low-quality weed. It was awesome. Me and my best friend (250lb male, very regular smoker, ate 2 brownies), were driving around for an hour just fucking stoned and confused and getting lost, laughing the whole time. Then we went back and played some Halo, and watched a couple movies. It was great. The high lasted much longer than normal. I ate the first brownie at about 8pm, and was still stoned when i went to bed at 1am. That's what i don't like about smoking, is that i'll smoke, and then put on a movie, and by the end of the movie i'm not high anymore. Not the case with brownies.
My girlfriend (120lb female, doesn't smoke much) got extremely stoned off of one and a half brownies. Her cousin (150lb male, regular smoker) got really stoned, and just passed out.
The only thing i didn't like about it was that it took so long to kick in. It took about an hour to kick in, which sucked just sitting there waiting for it. But once it kicked in, it was well worth it. The second night, i ate one brownie, and then took a couple bong hits. I figured that would get rid of the waiting time, and it did. I ended up not getting as high (i only ate one brownie though) but it still lasted a long time.
I highly recommend making something edible with weed. It was great. I'm definetly going to do it again. I hope this convinces those of you who haven't tried it to try it. If you have any questions, i'd be happy to answer them the best i can. I'm about to go to bed though (I got a fuckin cold and i can't stop coughing) but i'll be back on tomorrow.
