I just found out my friend did order weed online many times before, so he's paranoid about being put on some kind of list or something. But he did use hushmail (an email service that encrypts what you write) instead of regular email.

So maybe he's a little justified in being paranoid. Maybe they put your name on a list if you order weed online, who knows. I decided to just be nice about it, and just never talk about weed via email anymore with him. Let him have his way. But I still feel that it's perfectly safe. I mean, yeah he ordered weed online before (and he got it sent to his Europe address, not US address), but I really doubt the FBI is gonna use any of their resources to try to catch a small time user. If they spent all their time trying to catch every small time user, and reading every drug user's email, then nothing would ever get done in the FBI (or DEA).

If I recall right, I remember a commercial that said, "if you smoke marijauna you are funding international terrorism". Furthermore, there are many DOCUMENTED cases where evidence was obtained by abusing the patriot act when the suspect was in no way associated with any terrorist organizations. To really understand this though, you need to understand what a terrorist IS. A terrorist is somone who uses violence or even threats of violence to intimidate, often for political purposes. So all you need to be is a threat and have a different political view from the powers that be, and BAM you can be labeled a terrorist. It's all bullshit though, this isn't about terrorists anymore, this is about taking away your rights.

Oh and HighinHI, did you know that SECTION 404 of the Patriot Act makes it a crime for a terrorist or "other criminals" to use encryption in the commission of a crime.

Im not sure about the cops or fbi bustin you for talkin about weed in an e-mail, but I will tell you this much. I wouldnt go and talk about anything you wouldnt want your e-mail service provider to know about. The reason I say this is because THEY CAN AND DO read e-mails. Since the e-mail is stored on THEIR server they can read and do what they want with it. Anything you say in an e-mail is subject to their review and if they feel it is somthing which is not legit they may choose to report it to the authorities. So my advice would be dont mention anything you wouldnt want your e-mail service providers to know.

The government uses the patriot act to take away you're rights. Remember a couple of weeks ago when it came out that the NSA was/is taking phone company records and using warrentless phone tappings. If they are doing this to phone messages, just imagine what they are doing to email records.

Nobody gives 2 shits that some dudes are talking about weed in there e-mail unless your talking about pounds and even then it is a long shot that you will be busted, the government monitors everything on the internet, but they only care about some big shit, like people setting up major deals online, which I don't know of any being busted, but it has to happen even if it isn't generally reported on the news. I have herd of sites where weed can be ordered, it would seem to me that these people would go down before you and your friend were to get busted for talking about the mad bonghits you took the other knight. Your friend is a paranoid fuck who needs to be told what's up.

On the other hand if his parents have anything on his computer to monitor his shit, or just simply know how to access his e-mail then I could see why he would be pissed.
