homemade bowl and other questions

ok im confused as hell. should i or should i not use aluminum foil for the bowl on my home made bong?? is tin foil really healthier?? i wanna buy a little screen for my bowl, what material are they made of?? what material is best to use as the downpipe?? people are telling me plastic pens are also bad for you since they get heated by the smoke....

and whats the best (least hazardous) material to use to hold your bong together and will help keep the bottle from melting? (downpipe to bottle, bowl to downpipe et)

whats the carb hole for?? (im a new smoker)

go buy a glass pipe or bong. don't bother making home-made pipes and bongs. But if you must know...

aluminum = BAD
copper = BAD
plastic = BAD
steel = GOOD
brass = GOOD
glass = BEST

screens are either made out of steel, brass or glass. The glass screens are little tiny star looking pieces. they are about the size of a single NERD candy. They are good for glass pipes and bongs (I think screens are useless for bongs though). However, I find metal screens are better, the glass ones resinate and clog the pipe very fast, plus are EASY to lose. It's easier to pay a couple bucks for a bunch of screens rather than couple for a glass screen and losing it.

A carb allows you to suck out all the air in the chamber quickly, and easily.

air, smoke, same thing. It's the shit thats in the chamber. It's part air, part smoke. It's smairke.

A carb isnt manditory. It works by allowing air from outside the chamber into the chamber at a higher intake to exhaust ratio than with just the bowl hole. Which allows you to suck in the smairke quickly, and easily.

YES...just use glass, make sure its not fiberglass because...thats just common sence...be safe why use ghetto stuff just put out an extra 30 bucks and buy something nice...

carbs are not mandatory but definatley help i dont know why you wouldnt use one its not like its hard....

Materials we used for our bong:

1 Dasani water bottle
1 salt shaker cap
1 copper connector (There are specific sizes for these. I forget which one we used. But it fit perfectly with the clear tubing)
1 Bubble tea straw (yeah, we're asian)
1 Plastic clear tubing (we found it at Canadian Tire, pretty cheap. It's prolly for use in aquariums or something)

Anyways, it was pretty straightforward. Melt a hole in the bottle on the side for the straw (you inhale through this), melt a carb hole in the side (preferable ergonomically placed. ). Attach the straw into the bottle with hot glue to minimize air leak. Now you're done with the bottle. For the bowl, attach the salt shaker cap to the copper connector piece with hot glue. Then attach the clear tubing to the copper connector. Insert bowl in the mouth of the bottle, and maybe pad with some duct tape to make the seal more airtight.

It makes cleaning the bowl much easier, because you can remove the entire piece, and empty out the bowl without worrying about tipping the water.

That bong got us all nicely mashed on more than one occasion. Then it got thrown out during moving. *sigh*

Well it doesnt really dilute it, but a carb allows you to inhale the rest of the smoke that remains in the chamber after your initial hit easier. A sliding glass bowl works the same on a bong, you light up the bowl untill your lungs and the bongs chamber are full, then you slide the bowlhead out (which is like taking your finger off the carb), which lets you get better airflow to inhale the rest of the smoke. Hope this makes sense, im kind of high.

doesn't 'dilute' the smoke.. think about it like shotgunning a beer, you poke the hole in the side, which is the same as a carb on the bowl and to get the beer to come out faster you turn the beer upside down and unplug the 'carb' thus, air can rush in the carb and force what is remaining in the can (the 'chamber') to be forced quickly out of the can and into your mouth..

can you tell me step by step how you would use a carb while smoking?? maybe this way ill get it...

Step 1. Pack bowl with marijuana
Step 2. Put Finger over Carb
Step 3. Light lighter, place over bowl, and suck in, causing flame to light substance
Step 4. Keep sucking untill you start to feel the smoke in your lungs
Step 5. Remove finger from carb while still sucking, this clearing any smoke left in the chamber into your lungs
Step 6. Repeat ad nausem

heres how to make yourself a good personal pipe.:
take a medium thick marker (not the huge craoyla ones, don't worry you'll be able to find one somewhere around the house our in the art room at school) and open it up and take all the shit out of it (tip, ink thing, ect) so that its just a long tube.
then get a small sized socket (personally i thnk 5 or 5 mm is the best because they have the smallest opening, thus less chance of sucking through) it should look likt this http://www.mohdparts.com/egr_mods/1/tsb01055.jpg
so it starts small and you can stick part in then it gets bigger and you can't put it in any more. thats what you'll want to do, and then use electrical tape around the socket for good measure.
pack the herb in the socket (make sure its not all shake, sometimes it may suck through the bottom, but the opening on smaller sockets are usually no bigger then the opening on bowls.) and smoke away. i don't know if this will be able to hold enough for more then just you though, but its a good starters pipe till you can afford a real one or learn to roll.

I would seriously just reccomend buying a cheap glass bowl to anyone, they can be bought for like $20-$30 and work brilliantly, and will last forever if you take care of them, comeon, people are willing to shell out $20 for a gram, why not buy a bowl too.... its $20

i agree, but sometimes theres problems with getting a peice, like the person is underage and can't find someone to buy them one (which i'm sure isn't his problem becuase you have to be 18 to be on gc ). or they're unemployed and have barley enough to buy bud.yes you should get a peice but when you first start its not necesary. start savin but untill then try and roll j's and use homade pipes as little as possible (the one i posted isn't that bad for you since its no aluminum foil).
and hey, not all homade pipes are bad. Gravity bongs kick ass.
And my bong is homade. i'm gonna probly post some pics tonight but the bowl is the bowl off my old spoon that i dropped and broke off. the bowl is taped to some thick rubber tubing that goes into a water bottle and i ahve silicon all around the hole where the tubing and bottle meet (i did it when i was high as fuck so its a little slopy) and put a carb on it. hits like a dream.

Yea, the only homemade pipe I have ever truly been satisfied with is a gravity bong... I just dont like homemade pipes, they dont hit to my expectations... but yea either roll something or get a pipe
