I'd like to do a little ranting...

Why is it that new smokers always refer to smoking weed as getting fucked up? To most people weed is another form of intoxication. Often people see it like drinking, and do it without any respect or care. People rarely see Marijuana as a hallucinogen, or anything of that type, when truely thats what it is. Allthough it may not be a POWERFULL hallucinogen (like LSD, or DMT), it does release serotonin into the brain, and it causes perceptual alterations.

Pot isn't about getting "fucked up", it isn't like alcohol, where its almost a sport to see how much you can drink. Marijuana's feeling has alot to do with how you think of it. Long time smokers will tell you, the feeling that they get is different now, because they have learned to manipulate it, and controll it to their likeing. However it takes time to be able to do this, because to use what you have, you must first understand it. It takes time for many smokers to aquire this understanding, because most people that start smoking view it as "getting fucked up" or "getting high"; to many its almost the same competition with alcohol, to see how far gone you can get....

When i started smoking reefer, i never viewed it as getting messed up, or high. I would put on a track of Juno Reactor, and think. I remember how i would have thousands of thoughts flooding my mind, and how powerful Marijuana really was. It wasn't the body buzz (which is nice), and it wasn't the perceptual differences (i remeber watching a cop car speeding past my house, and saying to myself "man, i thought that car would never pass..."). Ganja is about allowing your mind to flow from thought to thought, and allow new ideas to appear easier. For 2 years, i've been using weed, as a way to find out the things i like, and dislike, and make my life a happier place (not just when im under its effects.) It has brought back memories of childhood, that were otherwise lost forever.

Only recently have i been actively writing down some of my "revelations" so to speak. For instance, i figured out buddhist meditation, and how it works a few nights ago (I won't go into it on this post, don't worry). I understood it. People think that you can only have those life changing revelations with powerful hallucigens, like LSD and Mescaline, but the truth is, you can have the same realizations, to a lesser or sometimes even greater extent, with Marijuana.

In short, You can choose to look at weed in two ways:

Don't just smoke up, and eat, and laugh. This is fun but it can get old fast...

immerse yourself in music, and just...think, write, go for walks, enjoy the world, enjoy nature, enjoy someone elses company, fully understand the little things (some of you know what i mean), and change your life.

That used to be true when I was younger. But now I treat pot and alcohol equally. I use it to enhance my experiences and my creativity. About the "fucked up"...I dunno. You have a point there. But sometimes I do get fucked up, I think.

because too many people don't understand it. just the other day i was walking in the hall at school and these 2 kids were talking about weed. he was like "i just got 10 dollars, man im buying some weed tonight. im gonna get FUCKED UP." he was a dumbass. too many people don't know that it's fairly harmless and see it as a way to get fucked up. these are the people that don't help us at all in stepping toward legalizing it. i don't know how much sense i'm making. i'm a bit "fucked up" myself right now.

it's personal preference. i don't think you can judge people because some like to smoke and meditate and others like to smoke and go out and have a good time.

although yeah if the people are dumbasses and are like "yah man were gonna get so fucked up off this shwag."

very nice post bro. but i do like to get fucked up sometimes :-P (halucinate etc.) but most of the time with pot I just like to chill and write..(poetry, stories, etc.) music has a new meaning with pot.. it seems much more... down to earth and I seem to understand the lyrics on a new level. This is one of my reasons for thinking that 80 % of all songwriters are stoned when they write their lyrics because some really odd stuff when im not stoned I can understand perfectly when im gone. It lets me think OUTSIDE the box...

first off, awsome post man, very true, when i was younger i used to see people smoking in movies and stuff, and they would act stupidand stuff but as funny as that was its not always like that, when i smoke i think of it as more of a spiritual expierence and it gave me a whole new perspective on life

i smoke everyday, but i dont get fucked up everyday.

however, there is those occasions where i will get fucked up off of just smoking.

It just depends on how you wanna feel, a nice high, or totally blasted.
