try boiling that spoon man, i know what you mean about the shitty taste. if you boil it on the stove, make sure to put a cloth or something between the pipe and the bottom of the pan...if you don't you could crack that piece. it may smell a bit after you boil it, so make sure you have a little bit of time before anyone would be able to smell it.
