yeah, make sure the glass is thick... If there are any marbles or other things added on to it, I believe that it is best made when the thickest part of the marble is where it should make contact with the pipe. ie: basically, you shouldn't have an entire circle sticking out of the side of the pipe, but maybe just like 1/2 circle or something like that. (does that make sense?) make sure the hole in the bowl is obviously not too large, I think something around the dimensions of 1 to 2 mm is a pretty good standard. (so you're not sucking all the ash and weed through the hole) Look at the characteristics of it, will it be easy to clean? And of course, the general art work quality and originality. If it's color changing, inside out, etc. Oh, where the shaft of the pipe meets the bowl, make sure that the "weld" is solid and not all bumpy or too thin; if it was originally two pieces made into one pipe. That should help a bit. |

ask to see a couple differant pipes that are roughly the same size, compare their weight. you want a HEAVY pipe. the heavier it is, the less breaking youll get. also, those little bumps or "marbles" as its been put are good. They tend to absorb some of the shock when a pipe is dropped, and usually those will chip, but the pipe will remain intact.

I spent $12 on my glass spoon as it was just supposed to hold me over until i could get something nicer. It's not color changing, the hole in the bowl is kinda big, and it's extremely light. That was over ayear ago and my best friend has been through 3 broken (and very expensive) spoons in that period. I have thrown my bowl into the front of my bookbag for a few weeks with no chips, it's really long and because of that it hits like a champ. and the bowl sits lower than the mouthpiece so you don't inhale ash. My friends seem to use my spoon when it's sitting there with 3 others, so I'd just like to say that sometimes it works out like that.

I would suggest going with something short if you plan to take it out of the house. You want something that you can pretty much wrap your hand around to hide it. It should also fit comfortably in your pocket. I'd say no more than 5" long.

my 7 inch hammer seems to do the trick, it cools the smoke as much as my bong...bigger bubblers just seem like a waste to me...they're just like bongs portability wise...but without the huge rips.
