ice & bongs

I just got my first glass bong, I've always used acrylic. I know that ice in bongs makes the hits a bit smoother, but someone told me that you need the ice in there to prevent the glass from cracking because of the heat. Is that true? My new glass bong is rather narrow, so my ice doesn't fit. Do I need to buy a smaller ice tray or is it just for smoothness?

It's nice to put ice in your bong, but it's not a necessity. It just makes it a bit smoother to hit.

put a cup of water in the freezer for a while then pour it in the bong and it'll be plenty cold, and make the hits smooth as hell

Hey Serene, if you'd really like to experiment with ice/water mix, you can try a homemade bong with a bottle with a downstem and bowl (no carb here) on the bottom and an upside down bottle with ice in it (crushed if you can get it to fit in there), and at the top you can make a hole or use another downpipe to suck it up from. Be sure to tape the meeting of the bowl so no smoke leaks out. The smoke goes through the water then up to the top through the ice, and you barely even feel the hit.

Otherwise just try the icewater thing that Frosty suggested :P

even go one step further and dont put any water at all, just fill the whole bong up with ice. youv got to smoke it semi-fast though so it doesnt melt and flood the bowl.

Yes, ice rips with the bong filled is pretty intense. If you want to do it just take a few rips then take the stem/bowl out and empty out the melted ice and refill it with some more ice, you should be good to go.

Ice rips with the 6 footer is probably the hugest amount of smoke that's ever been in my lungs.

just make sure you're careful not to break the female piece in your bong if you do decide to put ice cubes in it
