Plastic Stem (Pics)

I recently busted the glass stem of my bong, instead of getting a replacement, I found a cheap way of replacing it:









Is this plastic replacement stem safe for smoking? I have a male metal stem that goes in it (not a pull thru, has a screen), im just a little bit worried about the plastic getting heated up when it comes in contact of my metal stem/bowl. So is this safe?

if you have a glass bowl to put in it, it will work the same just a lower quality smoke

don't put allot of heat on it at all and you should be ok, but as soon as u find a new glass one get it, plastic isn't good to be passing smoke through.

There should be no plastic touching the smoke until it hits water. Plastic starts to release toxins even below 200F.

It is NOT safe to have the bowl or stem made from plastic.

there are hard types of plastic that burn at very high temperatures

this doenst appear to be one of them


when i was much (much much) younger we used the waterproof container for a standing flare (a bit of some carbon but mostly hard as rock plastic) that was rated well above 200 degrees i can assure you.



do yourself and all ya buddies a favor and please find another subsitute (chemistry supplies work well) or just another smoking device until an adequate subsitute can be purchased.

does it taste any different than it would with a glass one?

Thanks. The bong is about 2 and a half feet tall.

My bong was stemless for 2 months. During that period, to smoke, i would only place the metal stem in it through the black rubber, doing this makes a much harsher hit because quite a bit of filtration is gone, and the bubbling factor is completely gone.

I just did my first bowl in it yesterday, and it was pretty amazing. I didnt taste anything different as opposed to my old glass stem, it was pure joy.

Anyways, some members have mentioned that the heat may be a problem, I took a couple of pics, with my stem:

So the pink plastic stem is submerged in water all the time, and the flame goes nowhere near it either. So is this still a problem?

Maybe the heat from the metal stem, transfered through the pink plastic stem poses a problem?

If it was me, I'd buy a new glass stem for $15-$20 bucks or a whole new bong for $50. Possibly fucking up my lungs isn't worth that money.

Yea, be careful with plastic. I made a stem out of plastic for a homemade bong and by the time I was done smoking the part connected to the bowl had melted. And how did you made the bong stemless. There is no point in not putting the stem in the water. THere will be no filtration at all if you do that. Thats why the hits here so harsh. It was just like smoking out of a dry piece.

dle_240: This bong is my only smoking device (other than papers), its a harsh hit, but its better than putting the end of the metal stem in my mouth and lighting it on the other end, lol.
