Did You Know????
That delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol has been approved by the the United States Food and Drug Administration for use by humans as a medicine since December 23, 1992 [1], and therefore (theoretically) it can be prescribed by any properly licensed medical doctor in the country holding a DEA number? [2] If you don't believe me, just read Schedule III of the Controlled Substance Act, it's the last substance on the list. [3] In fact, because delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol is a Schedule III drug (as well as a Schedule I drug - the same goes for gamma-hydroxybutyrate a.k.a. GHB a.k.a. Xyrem), that means that it's less illegal than amphetamines, which are very commonly given to children - even very young children. [4] Which is weird, because I had thought that distribution of amphetamines of the amount typically prescribed for just one month's use carried a federal sentencing guideline of 15-21 months in federal prison - first offense, no priors. [5] So I don't know what to think. Just goes to show that not only does prohibition not work, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense either.
1. http://www.aidsinfo.nih.gov/DrugsNew...spx?int_id=138 2. I don't have the time or the patience to do adequate research on the regulations regarding controlled substance prescriptions, sorry. 3. http://www.erowid.org/psychoactives/...d_sched3.shtml 4. I was one of those children. 5. one month's supply defined as 10 mg actual amphetamine per day for 30 days (minimal research behind this definition, so no citation, sorry) http://www.miami-criminal-lawyer.net...guideline.html https://www.policyarchive.org/bitstr...4_20050405.pdf I tried to find the federal sentencing guideline for the penalty level increase for distribution of a controlled substance to a minor (common among state controlled substance laws) but I was unable to do so in a short period of time.
