What effects quality the most?

Does quality of weed depend most on growing techniques? Or just what strain is being grown? Why is there such a wide variety of weed quality?

different strains have different THC contents.. so yeah strain has a lot to do with potency, as well as growing techniques.
If you don't harvest when the trichomes are properly ripened it'll effect potency bigtime.
Also a proper cure is a big factor.

like august said, different strains have different potency and effects. That said, almost any weed can be grown very well and end up being potent(enough). Depending on the length of flowering for the particular strain, near the end the trichomes start turning from crystal clear to milky. Eventually all the trichomes will turn milky and from that point on the plant is near its maximum potency.

Different effects may be had from the same strain if you just wait for the trichomes to again change from that milky color to an amber goldish-brown color. A bud with milky trichs will give you a racier high while buds with amber trichs will give you more of a couchlock indica-like stone

I chop mine when the trichs are about 50% amber. This is very much a matter of personal taste - you see lots of posts in September asking - Is my plant ready yet? And lots of answers usually in the style - Give it another week. (Just looking at the plant - not the trichs.)
But no-one other than you can say.

Everything effects the quality. Both genetics and growing skills.

You can try growing some Mexican ditch weed in a cup-worthy grow room and it will only get so potent. A plant can only be as good as its genes.

You can also grow the finest seeds under a crappy lightbulb, without separating the males and with little nutrients. Your G-13 Haze seeds will make seedy, stemy shwag under those conditions.

without a doubt the greatest factor affecting thc content/quality is the production of sensimillia buds. if fyou dont remove the male plants the female plants will polinate. they will have seeds. buds without seeds have much higher thc content, and will be much more potent.

remove the male plants from the scene, as they will affect the quality of your females buds more than any other factor
