the great aluminum foil debate

So I have heard so many bad rumors about using aluminum foil to smoke with. I personally don’t see what’s bad about it. I’ve looked into when it vaporizes since people say that the vapors can cause Alzheimer’s. They also say its harsh on your lungs. I decided to come here and ask the question. I didn’t bother searching for other threads on this since I want to know what the current users of GC think on the topic.

Before you go and say whatever…just know that here are the facts on aluminum and burning temperatures.

Boiling Point of Aluminum=2467C
Heat from most Bic lighters=600-1400C
Heat from burning cigarette(assuming that weed and tobacco smolder at similar temperatures)400-780C

Now at what point does the heat even come close to creating vapors from aluminum??? If you know otherwise…feel free to post and let me know.

Eh, I use tin foil occasionally when I'm making waterfall bongs. I think if you use other things to smoke out of and only use aluminum foil occasionally you're fine.

Ill add this too:

Nobody ever directly linked aluminium to be a cause alzheimers.

The connection was suggested, because when they observe brain cells in alzheimers patients, they have unusually high levels of aluminium.

Nothing ever proved aluminium caused the alzheimers. You can speculate it did, but there is no direct link.

i smoked a shit load out of aluminum bowls for the last 5 years and there aint shit wrong with me, yet. i doubt it, because id use the same aluminum for like 5 bowls, then id run my finger thru the bowl and get the soot right off, and its still the same aluminum foil underneath. so naw it dont do shit

I always hold my lighter under the foil for a few seconds to burn off the coating that is on some kinds of aluminum. Whenever I used foil to smoke H, I would always run my lighter under the foil and I could see a small amount of fumes coming up from the foil for a few seconds. This is almost certainly NOT aluminum fumes, but some kind of coating they put on there to make it shiny or something.

Like someone said above, this so-called link to Alzheimer's isn't even credible. Even if aluminum foil could give off fumes at such a low temperature, it doesn't necessarily mean that those fumes can cause alzheimers.

of course, I always try to avoid AL foil, except when it's the only medium that is suitable for my drug of choice.

Tin foil is NOT regular aluminum!

There's all sorts of additives and such they use to make it into aluminum foil.

Take a lighter and heat some tin foil up, you'll probably see some nasty black smoke coming off of it.

Now do the same thing with a real chunk of aluminum and I don't believe you'll see the smoke.

I know I don't want to inhale that shit, I stay away from foil. There's no reason to risk it in my opinion, not to mention the taste.

i never really noticed a taste to aluminum foil, i usually use it for homemade bongs and only the last hit will taste different but i know its just kicked and it ends up tasting like a resin hit.

the black smoke is from tin foil and its like some coating that prevents food from sticking to it.

but i just hate seeing people say that it will cause harm if it really wont. its too useful to not use.

I don't think there's enough information to say that it definitely doesn't cause any harm whatsoever, so I usually try not to risk it. If it's the only thing to use, then fine, but I've almost always got my pipe on me.
