Cool HDR Bud Shot

This is just an HDR Picture i took awhile back testing out my HDR Macro Skills just some middies but very nice. HDR is a process of layering multiple images of the same thing at different exposures. P.S this bud magically fell into the bag

Thats the biggest resolution? I mean HDR photography is cool but with a subject like that you need a WAY higher resolution.

not a great subject for HDR but you did a pretty good job of it. I'd work on getting rid of that halo. I like how it brings out the purple though

HDR photography is really only useful in certain situations, when it is impossible to get the amount of contrast with detail that you want from just one exposure. for instance:

from

It's not really that beneficial when photographing organic things for anything other than effect

Great mids, though :]

Well, like the person above me said, it doesn't quite have the same effect on some things, but cool nonetheless. Cooler yet is that this is the first I've heard of HDR, and there are some pretty sweet pictures I've come across while googling...

Also, I have Photoshop CS3 (pretty much just so I can say I have it) and a decent digital camera, how hard is it to do this HDR stuff. I'm thinking I could do wonders with the Minneapolis skyline...

for a point and shoot camera i thought it did pretty well, considering i couldn't take the shots in RAW format and being my second attempt and HDR i think it turned out fine. as for the res it should be bigger but for some reason thats all ya get on GC

If you know how to change F-Stops or shutter speed, very easy.

Like the person above me said, just adjust the f-stop or shutter speed to get different exposures, then use photoshop's "merge to HDR' function. pscs3 doesn't have the best tone-mapping, but for personal photography it is more than adequate. If you're using a Nikon d3 or lower, with the exception of the coolpix camera, you can just turn the main control wheel left and right to adjust the exposure + / - 5 degrees in stops of 1/3 or 1/2. Take about five or so pictures (total) at different exposures to ensure you get the most information from the scene and it should turn out great (assuming you have good composition, other photography knowledge, etc).

It pretty much completly pointless to use HDR on a subject such as a nug of weed, unless you just want a weird looking picture.

It's cool, i guess. HDR is really meant to bring out the subtle features though. Such as a cloudy day or the glow of a street light. A nug really shouldn't be an HDR picture though. Good shot none the less i guess, props.
