Buying chipped glass?
At a shop the other day i found a nice thick bowl for half off because it had a chip in the glass. The chip was not bad and didn't make a hole in the glass. Will a chip effect a bowl? Will it get larger over time?

Yeah you can get some really tight deals on chipped glass depending on the shop. For example I recently picked up a sherlock from my local shop that had a very small hairline crack in the top of the bowl, and it got marked down to $15 from $33 originally just for that.

dude go for it, the chip isnt gonna affect the functionality.
my headshop had like 5 roors that had defects, and they just threw them in the "trash". i wish i could have gotten one of those chipped roors. But yea its definately a great buy since hes gonna give you a discount on it. I just picked up a cheap little bubbler, It has a rubber stopper ontop of a small jar, and it has like 2 small blue tubes for the smoke to go thru. its pretty sick for $7 if you ask me. |

The chip might not affect the functionality of the bowl, however the bowl will be that much more likely to get damaged. Is it worth it to pay half off for a bowl that breaks in a week? You might as well have paid full price for one with no chip and have it last a lot longer.
This being said I haven't seen the bowl you're thinking of getting, so I don't know how chipped it is or anything. If it looks like it could potentially spread into a deep crack or something I wouldnt get it. I bought a bowl once from a convenience store and when I got it there was a small crack in it...didn't go deep or anything, I thought nothing of it. Then after using it it got knocked over, and would have been fine if it didn't have that small hairline fracture in it...but it broke in half cleanly where it was. |
