Gravity/Waterfall Bong cap question

Now, I'm really just a weekend smoker, and I usually smoke about a gram or two between a couple of friends.

I've made waterfall bongs before, with more successful attempts than failures, but I've never made the actual cap. By cap I mean the metal socket glued onto or squeezed in between the cap of the bottle. Before I make my waterfall bong, I wanted to ask you lot some questions.

1) I know smoking with metal instruments can be hazardous, but only when the metal is cheap and releases alloy particles upon combustion. Is the metal of the tool socket safe for me to smoke out of?

2) Which is a better method; pressing the wrench socket through the plastic cap (then gluing it, if needed), or cutting a hole into the cap and gluing the socket on top of it?

3) I've seen tutorials in which metal wire (from a paper clip, for example) is wound up to create a removable screen that is placed in the socket. Is this a good technique?

4) For the size (dimensions) of the bowl (socket), what would be ideal for me if I am using a 0.5 liter bottle, and can get stoned quickly? Also, I want to make my beautiful nug last.

5) Will the smoke in the waterfall bong be hot enough to release harmful particles from the plastic of the bottle into the herb smoke?

6) By making the spout of the waterfall bong a couple of inches higher than the bottles base allows some water to be held after the bottle has been drained; this of course lessens the volume the bottle can contain. I've heard that by plugging both the spout/carb and mouth piece of the bottle and shaking the remaining water in the bottle to the smoke filters the smoke like a waterpipe. Is this true, and if so, is it practical? And I know that water filters THC along with harmful particles.

7) When I load the socket bowl with herb, is it better to keep the nug hole or shred it before lighting it up? I'm asking this question only because I have been shredding my herb before packing it in, while my puff-buddy prefers to load her bowls with nugs.

1.I have been using a metal socket(pretty sure its metal) and it has been fine, i would use a new one and not a used one to be safe.

2. Start with a tiny hole that you know it wont fit in then try to push it through, if it doesn't work make it a little bigger and try to force it in again, just go slow and do not make the hole much bigger every time you want it to be airtight. When you finally get the right fit it will just pop in and wont fall out.

3. If you use a small enough socket you wont need a screen, just put a bigger nug on the bottom. But if you need to use one i know home depot sells screens and smoke shops do too.

4.you can use any size socket you want to use, i commonly hear 3/16 and 1/4, im pretty sure I am using 3/16, you dont need much weed for the waterfall bong.

5. not 100 percent sure but i think as long as your not lighting or burning the plastic than its safe. But I find when you use the same bottle for a while its turns yellow and the smoke gets harsher.

6.Not really sure on this one, after the weed stops burning no more smoke is being brought in and just the smoke is moving down so isnt that the same amount?......not sure if i explained that right. I always start to smoke it after it like an .5-1 inch above the hole so there is still water above it.
7. Whatever you prefer, i like it grinded up i find it burns better.


even if you make it wrong it will still give u really high.......and btw i never feel safe gluing anything on because it can always heat up.the socket ends up being pretty hot sometimes.
