well, some people do it to shuffle the insides of the bowl to make it burn slower, or to remove anything immidiatly blocking the entrance for an easier hit. Its called "Stirring the bowl"

Burn slower? Not why I do it. I do it to push the ashes down so I can light the unsmoked weed that is deeper in the bowl. Otherwise it will get very little oxygen and be unable to combust properly.

The only time I ever really "stir" the bowl is when the draw gets too tight from ash or something..

You can always catch me with a black fingertip. I poke it to stop it from burning after I take my hit, and when the weed is packed down it hits better.

As Im clearing the smoke, I have the butt of the lighter over the cherry, then I press it from the side so the ash mixed with the herb that isnt yet burnt, turning the surface area to the top so it lites without much suction.

I usually take my finger and poke around, trying to pack it better. Anyone who uses a lighter isn't really doing much good; it tends to just stick to the bottom or do nothing at all.

same. i also occasionally do it just to put the bowl out so it isn't steaming.

Yea, I do this alot, alot of times to contain the smoke if im toking somewhere im trying to conceal the smell or just to pack it down so it will hit better.
