Bong Parts

I've never really smoked out of a bong before (at least not any store-bought ones ) and i was just wondering what all of the different parts were on the fancier bongs that I've seen, such as perculators, trees, bubblers, ashcatchers...I'm familiar with the traditional bowl and stem but I would just like to know what these parts are and how they work..I planning on buying a piece later in the week and would like to know what exactly I'm paying for. Thanks

Basically with every add on you will get a smoother hit but more drag will be present (more lung power required). There are two basic types of ashcatchers, dry and wet, both are mainly used to capture ash keeping your bong cleaner but with a diffused downstem they help filter the smoke a lot.

Tree and Domes are two different type of percolators with tress being a lot better. This is because there are usually more slits in which the smoke can pass through the water cooling it more.

As you can see in the vid below, The smoke travels up the trunk of the tree, And out the arms. filtering and cooling the smoke

I didn't think the OP wanted the entire breakdown so I went for the basic descriptions....

Oh and another bong part that has yet to be mentioned is a Diffuser, insted of having a hole at the bottom of the stem the stem has a solid bottom and several slits or holes in the side. This breaks the smoke into smaller bubbles so more smoke makes contact with water thus better cooling it. I got a acrylic bong from back when I was a kid that I had suped up with a bunch of home-made add ons. its not that hard making a decent bong with all the luxuries as a bought one. Made a Ashcatcher from a pill bottle 2 stems a piece of metal just the right size to hold up my top pull stem while sealing it during hitting. Put it togather with a glue gun. Made a Diffuser by weld tacking a piece of metal over the hole on the stem into the main Bubble then took a tiny ass dill bit and put some holes in it. Hits like a champ for a $25.00 acrylic and a bunch of shit out of my desk drawer and toolbox. Got glass on glass pieces and a vaporizer now days but I'll keep it forever for sintamental ressons.

Yea, basically all the parts you are asking about are just different ways of making more surface area of smoke make contact with water to cool it.

Cooler hits=smoother hits=bigger hits!
