Opinions on Marijuana and "Man-Boobs"

I know there are plenty of threads about this, but I want to hold a fresh discussion in the hopes that the results of this discussion may make me feel better.

Recently I have begin to get worried about the claim that marijuana leads to man-boobs. While I was smoking on 4/20 a kid said it was true. He said he had been smoking for a year and he had man-boobs. He was also very fit to. I'm 5'11'' (just under 6 feet) tall and about 145 pounds. I'm very fit. I'm really worried about developing man-boobs.

Do you think marijuana leads to man-boobs?

If you can, present sources for why you believe that.

I've smoked weed very heavily for the last 2 years at least and I have no man boobs whatsoever.

Do a search. On the last thread of this I put up two sources all saying the test results are inconclusive. The scientific community is still not sure.

Breast enlargement, a condition that was rarely reported in the era before highly active antiretroviral therapy, is emerging as a problem in the treatment of male human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-infected patients. Evaluation of this condition must distinguish between gynecomastia (proliferation of ducts and periductal stroma), lipomastia (adipose-tissue deposition), and malignancy. We describe 13 HIV-infected men, all of whom had exposure to antiretroviral therapy, who presented with breast enlargement. Nine of these patients had gynecomastia, only 1 had lipomastia, and 3 had lymphoma (2 had non-Hodgkin lymphoma and 1 had Hodgkin disease). Gynecomastia was unilateral in all but a single case. In addition, all but 1 of our patients with gynecomastia had prolonged exposure to protease inhibitors. Six patients had potential causes of gynecomastia other than antiretroviral therapy, including liver disease (in 2 patients), mild hypogonadism (in 1), long-term marijuana use (in 2), and use of medications that have known associations with gynecomastia (in 3). Although most causes of breast enlargement in HIV-infected men are likely to be benign, malignancies other than carcinoma are of concern.

Gynecomastia is a relatively common physical finding in men. A wide variety of drugs have been implicated in its cause. Sufficient evidence in the literature suggests that calcium-channel blockers, cancer chemotherapeutic agents, and histamine2-receptor blockers may play a role in the disorder. Evidence for digitalis glycosides and neuroleptic agents is insufficient. Ketoconazole and spironolactone can also produce gynecomastia, and data for marijuana are contradictory. Large numbers of drugs have only case reports of temporal association with the disorder.

Let me also state that BMI is a horrible way to see someone's fitness.

Well I eat my munchies but I don't eat for the must for the rest of the day. So should I be safe?

the THC definitely won't give you man boobs. Over eating from the munchies can put fat over your pecs (makes them look like boobs). gynecomastia is a different discussion. Tons of people smoke and don't ever have man boobs that should tell you something. Most data isn't very conclusive.

i lift 3-4x/week, and diet somewhat (nutrition major).. i smoke herb 2-3x + per/day and im still in the best shape of my life.. hit up the gym sometime instead of blaming your succulent "man-marries" on smoking
