Smoking the Herb got me kicked out of my fraternity

Like the rest of you, I myself am a connoisseur of cannabis; I have been for about 5 years now. My first year of college had its series of obstacles, my grades slipped and the failure of my long term relationship turned me in to hermit who refused to leave his room. I eventually got over it through a stable base of friends and countless bowls of good herb.

My second year was different; I decided that I wanted to be more involved in college life instead of sitting around. I decided to research the fraternal organizations that were available at my school and I had set my eyes on one of them. The members of the fraternity approved my application since I had known quite a few of them. None of the members of the fraternity knew of my personal hobby.

After I was approved, my evaluation period had started. Times were great, I had found some members who were also connoisseurs and to this day they are still good friends of mine, one of these friends happened to be on the Executive Board. I was a quiet member and never started trouble with anybody within fraternity and never disrespected it. (Of course I was blazed during these times but no one ever knew it except the members I was blazed with) I went to their events and meetings, but always placed emphasis on school and made the dean’s list.

As initiation week rolled around, I really questioned myself if the fraternity was really what I wanted. And it was. I looked forward to joining and saw the benefits it would have on my resume. The Initiation of new members to the fraternity must have a unanimous vote, I got 90%. Three of the members found out about my personal hobby and gave me no votes. I was kicked out of the fraternity without a chance to defend myself.

The explanation of the three members who had voted no believed that cannabis was bad for Public Relations and were afraid of my actions disrespecting the fraternity. They also believed that I had influence on the members who smoked. (Keep in mind these members smoked before they even knew me) After I found out, I was crushed. This made a lot of members angry and some threatened to leave the fraternity because I was pretty much a victim in the case.

This Fraternity allows their under aged members to drink, act retarded, and possibly hurt someone, while I can’t sit in my room and chief a little herb and not harm anybody.
Am I going to Stop? Of course not! Why should I be looked down upon for consuming what God had created?

Look at it this way, all fraternities have a national office. National Office regulates how fraternities can write their constitution and tells them what they should include. Every single national office has a very strict drug policy. Unfortunately drug users (including us cannabis connisours ) are viewed as a greater risk management issue.

When I was pledging for my fraternity, I smoked with a few of the members, who informed the rest of the fraternity of my habbits. I was lucky in picking a frat that was very 420 friendly

Also, how many brothers did that chapter have? A unanimous vote in my chapter for initiation almost would never pass, we require a %75. It is really surprising to me that since every brother has the same rights and privileges as another brother, that it would take a unanimous vote to initiate someone.

I live in the East Texas Bible Belt. So you could see why a few members voted no for me.

The chapter has 40 members. They were recently chartered this year. Unfortunately their starting constitution didn't have a majority voting clause, in fact no one looked at the voting process before everyone voted. 1 no vote pretty much killed my membership. I can never pledge again for the chapter here.

that blows man. All the frats here are pretty cool and everyone I know in a frat smokes lots of bud. They're not supposed to smoke in their houses yet they still do everyday.

A chapter of 40 brothers requires a unanimous vote to initiate someone? That's ridiculous man, I'm sorry. My chapter just recently got rid of the Initiation Vote because we just found it a waste of time, and left the choice up to the new member educator. After already going through the pledge process it seems really unfit that they require a 100% vote to initiate someone.

Screw them and keep enjoying the herb

Edit - They were just chartered? That makes a lot more sense now.

Seems not so much that you got kicked out but that you were never in.

But no matter, that's all the better. I wouldn't want to be in a frat that wouldn't want me to smoke anyway.

I mean some other organization, maybeeeeee...but a frat?!?! I can just picture it now..."Alright we've got the six kegs for tonight and 15 bottles of liq-IS THAT MARIJUANA I SMELL? THAT'S REALLY DANGEROUS GUYS, PUT THAT OUT!"

Hyprocrisy.

Wow that's BS, any frat I know of, most of them did smoke marijuana, and sold too. Wtf is these guys' problem?

I'm glad you're not going to stop smoking just because of them. There's no reason you should have to. Especially with the prolific alcohol abuse. I'm going to smoke a bowl right now.

Id say about 80% percent of farternity smokes daily. We can get kicked out for being too rough with the pledges, but unless you do something that shames the fraternity your a life member. Can I ask what fraternity you pledged? is it the business fraternity, AKPsi? Cause they booted one of my brothers (he wanted it for his resume) a day before he was initiated.
