It's basically the trichomes on the bud (that look like little crystals on stalks) and they will get stuck to your fingers if you break up by hand, but when you grind with a grinder that has a kief catcher, the kief that falls off the bud falls through a screen into a chamber below where you can then scrape it up and smoke it seperate from the bud. Since the trichomes are where the THC and other cannabinoids are produce, it's more powerful and gets you fucked up.

buy a grinder with a attachment that allows the keif to fall off the bud that you grind in it. keif is dank its like 100% THC

There are many ways to obtain kief without a grinder. Traditionally a fine screen is used and the bud shaken over it.

i think kief is like 50% thc. yea what everyone else said, its just trichromes and some plant matter falls in there too. if you want to get a good amount of kief bu a grinder w/ a kief screen, grind the bud (preferrably dry bud), put the grinder in the freezer for 15 minutes, put a dime in with the weed and shake the grinder side to side for 10 seconds. it should knock off a good amoun of kief, but will rape the weed of more thc than not freezing it.

smoking kief is like an 'auto-high' if you ask me. you are basically just smoking str8 THC. rip it real hard and you'll really feel it and most likely be coughing afterwards... ;-)
