| Cannastudent | How To Roll Backwards Joints
Alternatively: don't smoke what you don't have to. Afternoon fellow blades, just thought I'd offer some insight into the backwards rolling technique. Now, I've heard some call it inside-out and others call it backflip but it's all the same. This technique enables one to roll a joint using the minimal amount of paper necessary. I apologize in advance for blurry pics... my photography skills are lacking. Ok, let's start off by assembling everything you need to roll... Right then, let's start by first... er, hold on a tick, would you? *bubble bubble* Okay! Like I said, everything you need to roll. I'll be showing a comparison of those four papers at the end of the writeup. Also pictured: ashtray (says "I don't need permission to smoke here" on the bottom), bong (soft glass with homemade diffy and ice catcher), rolling mat, and pipe tool. We'll start out by first filling the mat with herb. Pictured is about a gram. Next, I like to slowly roll the weed loosely in the mat to form an evenly packed cylinder. You can even it out with your fingers and skip this step, but I will say that an even pack is more important to a slow and even burn than the papers are. Up 'til now things have been no different than rolling a joint normally. The paper is where things change, though. Once the herb is tightly packed, feed the paper in with the glue on the bottom and facing away from you. Roll like normal, but... When you see the glue under the paper, stop. Here's the tricky part: lick the glue through the paper. A gentle moistening won't do because it has to soak through the paper, but you can't slobber on it either elsewise it won't stick and might tear. Here's what it should look like once the glue is set: All of that extra paper is completely unnecessary! A thick layer of paper does not equate to a slow or even burn... like I said that's all in the pack. With some flavored papers I'll use the whole thing, but if the cheeba is good enough there's no need to taste paper. Now from there you have two options. You can tear the excess paper off, leaving just enough to cover the glue strip. Or you could deal with the excess by just burning it. This will give a distinct line along the joint, like shown. Now, listen up blades, 'cause here's the secret to backflips: leave about a quarter inch of unpacked space at the end of the joint like shown. While the excess paper is still on the joint, hold it at a 45 degree angle with the paper facing down. Light the bottom corner furthest from the tip and bring the mouth end to your lips... when the flame hits that empty space in the end, the paper will ignite into a small fireball... hit it right then and bjam! Self-lighting joint, A.K.A. the backflip. Here's a comparison of four papers rolled in this style: Note the other three are cigarettes. The zig-zags are the same size as juicy jay's and most other papers. The Job papers on the left are the same size as rizzlas, which are my preferred papers. That's a shitload of paper that doesn't positively influence the taste or burn of a joint, so why bother with it? Just roll backwards. Peace and stay green

Awesome tutorial, +rep. Pics are kind of blurry, but you can still tell exactly what you're doing. I've seen a few people roll like this, never tried it. Thanks for posting. PS: Nice bong

I roll my own cigarettes and smoke a lot of joints, therefore rolling something 20-30 times a day. Do you know how fecking long that takes handrolling? It makes going out for a cigarette break a 20 minute ordeal. The mat is convenient and keeps the mess down say if I'm rolling a cig at work, and ensures that I can roll a joint that will smoke for 15-20 minutes without running every time. I acknowledge your purist point of view and no doubt if a blunt winds up in front of me I'm skinning that up by hand, but I can consistently roll more better joints faster with a mat. Ground bud to spark takes maybe a minute, ninety seconds tops. Can you do that by hand?

+rep for the creator of this awesome tutorial Going to try this tonight, looks great. This would work great with some extremely thin papers, so you wouldn't be smoking pretty much anything but the ganja. | |

Who cares how it's rolled?!?! It's not like he rolled a joint using a rolling mat and came into a thread posting a pic of how awesome he can roll a joint just to later say that he used a rolling mat. The whole point is how to roll a backwards joint, and I think he did a great job of that.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone ![]() A little side note... from some more experimenting yesterday, this technique doesn't work for thick papers with a sugar-based gum like Brown Sugar, and is damned hard to pull off with glue-free papers like St. Modiano's, clear cellulose papers, or any blunt. My favorites have been the ultrafine zig-zags and kingsize blue rizzlas.

Nice tutorial ![]() You can also roll these by hand, if you hold your paper upsidedown and backwards and roll the joint normally, the sticky should be at the bottom facing you once you put in some weed and roll abit. Then just lick and finish. Ofcourse cut off the extra paper.

nice write up man, good pictures also, but ive lways wondered how does it being inside out make it burn slower? its a really neat trick to use as little paper as possible though, ive seen it done but never really got the process until just now im going to try it and ill post a pic of how my first one comes out.
