Like I mentioned, a slow even burn is moreso attributed to a firm pack. I won't deny that paper has some affect... I have two thoughts...

What happens when you light paper? It burns to ash quickly. When you light weed it burns, then snuffs out.

Second, when I observe joints that run I notice the problem is inevitably caused by a pocket of air, either in the weed or in the overlapping layers of paper.

Therefore without the excess paper there is less material with a propensity for combustion and less oportunities for air pockets, resulting in a slower even burn.

err.. I can.
and ive only been rolling a very short while
from when i have my mix and roach ready to the finished joint i can do it in maybe 10-15 secs.

but apart from that, i should investigate this mat business
