Cannabis does not make people dumb

It has been shown to increase alpha brainwaves (associated with higher level thinking) Alcohol is very different and I would compare the effects to lead poisoning.
With that in mind. Some people just like to shut up and enjoy the deep thought that they get into, whether they are smart or dumb to begin with.
Some people are soooo dam afraid of deep thinking that they hate marijuana. Or they just dislike it and don't understand it one bit.
I'm not a doctor and i don't care, i don't need to list my sources. Experiment for yourself and tell me what you think. Most of us have done alot of experimenting. so share those thoughts
About the topic... I want to read what you think even if you disagree, especially if you disagree.

Can't say I agree....I've seen people who only smoked bud who became noticeably dumber pretty soon after starting smoking.

I've seen tons of people who didn't experience the same thing, but there are some people who seem to really get affected by smoking, so I'd say it depends on the person, just like everything else....but I agree for the most part

I would argue that the people who are noticebly dumber are either dumb enough to be totally unfamiliar with higher level thinking or just felt like giving and and letting loose. But it's your experiences not mine that you were talking about so i'm definitly NOT saying your wrong

they didnt drink?
they didnt do shrooms?
didnt pop a pill?
its hard to say that marijuana has caused it when other people smoke just as much, for just as long, and arent so called "dumb".
i know a man who is in his 40's smoked since he was 13,
drinks alcohol everyday
smokes basically everyday
and is not dumb.
but rather a really intelligent person.

I said the exact same thing in my post, that it was probably an exception to how it is normally, but fact remains that NO he didn't do anything besides smoke weed and cigarettes and became noticeably dumber. This was a dude I knew in school, all during middle school he was just a normal person who made aight grades, but once he got into smoking he just got that burnout mentality and was just a moron basically.

Like I said I know tons of people in the same situation (myself included) who didn't react the same way. But I think that generalizing that much about how weed affects people is a little extreme....most people can handle it but I do believe that some people really get affected and their thinking really seems to get cloudy after a while.

I actually agree... it makes you dumber in a worldly sense, and conversely it makes you more intelligent when it comes to thoughts and emotions...

I get more coherent and fluent after a blunt... idk about you guys, but the whole "dumb" thing with weed is that it makes you think strangely, and you become so "deep" that you start going off on wild tangents while doing regular every day shit.

Like mushrooms, i think self control just requires dicipline. I like what you guys said but i only quoted one of you.

A closed mouth acquires no feet, but people may also think you're just sitting there like a dummy. It feels so good to say the right thing at the right time. Sometimes people don't value metaphores or they're not willing to think abstract. you guys have summed it up pretty good. You know there's different brain types and people types

I definitely think about some complex things when I'm high. I think if you are unintelligent to begin with, marijuana can make you dumber, but if you're smart, then it can make you smarter. I don't know, I have a friend and I've noticed he's gotten a lot smarter since he started smoking, it's crazy. Not school-wise, but life-wise.

It doesn't make smart people permanently stupid but when it's in your system, it does effect your cognitive functions. Short term memory is clearly a problem. When you've been smoking heavily daily and you lose track of a conversation, you're going to look and feel a little stupid. If you quit things return to normal after a few days. I love weed but I don't stick my head in the sand when it comes to the down sides.

Hmm... If you smoke WAY too much then it does genuinely affect short term memory, but I can remember stuff while blazed... The thing is that when you are high, thoughts race, mental states vacillate every fucking five seconds, etc...

You've got to make a concentrated effort to remember something, or put your entire undivided attention upon that thing, object, entity, etc.
