"In 1975, Ohio made possession and cultivation of less than 100 grams (3.5 ounces) of marijuana and a gift of 20 grams (0.7 ounces) or less of marijuana is minor misdemeanor (no criminal record) punishable by a $100 fine, a 6 month to 5 year drivers license suspension and a suspension of any professional licenses; stricter punishments exist for sale. [46] However, on December 1, 1975, the Supreme Court ruled that it was "not cruel or unusual for Ohio to sentence someone to 20 years for having or selling marijuana. Ohio reduces max. sentence to 15 years"
--I love wikipedia

Nebraska hasn't been mentioned yet. they decriminalized, anything under an ounce you just get a $100 ticket.
New York is a $25 ticket and $100 in court costs (same penalty as a seatbelt ticket)
MA is $250 for under an ounce and like Cali the MA state legislature send letters to federal legislators uring to decriminalize.
Maine has $350 tickets for anything under 1.25 ounces

We're heading in the right direction

Like others have said, Alaska is miles ahead of any other state when it comes to RECREATIONAL Marijuana laws, but I also think California has the best stepping stones to fully legalization already set out.

Also Alaska isnt included *Technicaly its already legal *

California

I have been caught multiple times for smoking marijuana and I have yet been ticketed or arrested. Seeing my bud get smashed on the ground is the worst I have seen. Maybe I've been lucky.

One of my friends got caught with some hash about six months ago and now he's on probation and lost his drivers license though.

Not completely true. I know plenty of people ho have been caught with like an eighth and had to do a LOT more than that. But i also know ppl who have gotten similar punishments to th one you described.

Idk where all of you get all your information, but i think the whole deal is just one GIANT flexible controversy.

The penalties that you are given are based upon the cop, what you were actually caught with (the evidence), the judge, your previous record, and your attitude IMHO.

You could be caught with 2 ounces and a cop might really not care at all or not want to deal with it and just take it and let you go...or he could cuff you and you could have a much bigger ordeal. There is no SET punishments for individual situations IMO.
