my bowl has a funky smell to it

well i bought a piece off of my friend. he said he never cleaned it and its been used over 50 times. so when i got home, i stuck it in boiling water. ever since i have been smoking out of it, it has like a really faint resin taste to it. it smells like shit. every bud i smoke out of it was different everytime so its not the bud. anybody know how to fix this?

the only explanation i can come up with is that your cleaning job wasn't thorough and you left a bunch of resin on the bowl and it's taking forever to dry.

stick it in boiling isopropyl (preferrably 91%) and then run it in hot water and shake it around in a ziplock with rubbing alcohol and salt in it. that'll clean it up completely (and if you put it in a ziplock, make sure you have a grip on the pipe itself within the bag while you're shaking it).
