Idiot's Guide to Smoking Weed :)

Alright... I am getting one G tomorrow. Since this is my first time, I obviously have pretty much no good idea as to what I am doing. I have learned alot from all the info you guys have given me within the last couple of days, but I still think I need to know a little more about the actual smoking process in order to do it properly.

Therefore, I was wondering if any of ya'll would be willing to put together somewhat of a detailed step-by-step guide regarding the entire process.

1) Info. regarding how to pick everything apart (basically the different components of the weed, what to pick apart from what, that which I should keep - what it looks like, that which I should throw away) would be awesome.

2) Then, how to properly pack the bowl. I want to do this right and not just dick around and hope I do this properly.

3) Detailed info regarding the actual smoking of the bud. I definitely want to do this right... so any info about inhaling, breathing, etc., would be really appreciated.

4) What to do with the pipe (as to cleaning - if this is necessary) once I am done smoking the entire bowl worth of weed.


This may be too much to ask, but I have definitely picked up a vibe around these forums that tells me that a good deal of ya'll would be willing to put together somewhat of a detailed (and therefore beneficial) step-by-step "Idiot's Guide to Smoking Weed" for me. You guys have all been really helpful so far so I just assumed this wouldn't be too much to ask.

Also, if you decide that you would be willing to help me out here, please remember that anything you might find to be completely obvious is most likely not obvious for me.. therefore please include it even though you think I probably already know it

Essentially, please include absolutely anything that you think would be necessary for me to know in regards to the ENTIRE process of smoking. I still know basically nothing as to the different components of the weed I will purchase, how to pick everything apart, what to keep, what to toss, how to pack the bowl, how to properly smoke it, and what to do afterwards....

ok lemme see. if you've got straight buds you should have no problem. Just break it up, pretty small right(you can do this with a grinder if you have one, or your hands just carfully not to rub it up too much) once you have it all broken up. take what would pack about half your bowl and put it in, if you have a screen, no worries just put it in, if not take your biggest piece and put that in first to make sure your stuff doesn't fall in. pack it a bit. then you put your mouth up to the bowl and breathe in as you light, since it's broken up well it should ignite easily and you won't have to hold the flame there long. breathe deep, then stop breathe more, at the same time tap your bud out so you don't burn it while you are holding it for a bit. then release. repreat this as many times as it takes for you to start feeling it.
you might not feel it at all this first time though, so just keep smoking your stuff until you've either reached a pleasant high, or it's all gone.
of course you will know when you need to pack the other half of your stuff when it's ashes. right. uhh. breathe deep though, don't waste your smoke. haha. ok, that's all I can think of.

If you have never smoked before, it's going to burn like hell. Coughing is a good thing, it means you did it right. Don't smoke seeds, pick out the stems. Look for the leafy/green/hairy parts and put those in your bowl.

the bud itself is pretty easy to see. theres gonna be a stem most likely, which looks like what you would picture a stem on a plant looks like, and you pick off all the buds from this. then you can break it up (just kind or rip it apart i guess), use a grinder to break it up, or scissors. or you dont HAVE to break it up, just stick a small nug in your bowl. if your pipe has a carb (a little hole on the side of the pipe) cover this with your finger or thumb, put the pipe up to your mouth, put your flame up to the bowl and start to breathe in, pulling the light onto the weed. once its lit, pull the flame off, suck in more. when you think you've got a good hit, take your finger or thumb off the pipe and breathe in until you're only pulling in air. but make sure you actually breathe in. to make sure, open your mouth and breathe in through your mouth, you can feel it in your lungs. and like above me said, if you cough you're doing it right and it IS going to burn like hell lol

Haha check your PM. But yea only thing I left out was cleaning. It doesn't need to be done on a regular basis but when you do want to just grab your spoon throw it in a ziplock baggy with 70% or 91% Iso rubbing alcohol add some Epsom salt, sea salt, or even table salt and shake it up for 30 seconds to 3 minutes and it aughta come clean.

Depending on what grade it is, you should get a nug



It may be bigger or smaller than that, and is sometimes compressed. Or it may also be pre-ground up.

Just pick a chunk off, don't put any stems or seeds in the bowl, it is easy to tell the difference between seeds/stems and weed

Just tear off as small pieces as you can and throw it in, it doesn't matter that much, as long as it's huge chunks, because then there is green inside that the lighter won't get to and you'll be wasting weed.

Before taking the hit, exhale all air in your lungs
Hold the lighter to the weed until you see it start to ember or "cherry". Which should only be a second, you might have to re light it several times throughout the hit in order to keep it cherried.

Pull away from the piece, and what I like to do is inhale one more time through your mouth, like you would a cig.
Then hold it in and count to 3 before exhaling. You need to hold your hits in up to 7 seconds to allow your lungs to absorb the thc, but by time your done taking the hit and inhaling one more time it really should only be 3 more seconds.

If you don't know how to inhale a cig, just open your mouth and take in a huge gulp of air, if you practice this before you smoke you will feel the air in your lungs. With a pipe/bowl/bong this isn't really necessary, I just like to do it to make sure every bit is inhaled. If your smoking with a joint or blunt, you will have to inhale again after each hit.

4) What to do with the pipe (as to cleaning - if this is necessary) once I am done smoking the entire bowl worth of weed.

Nothing really, just roast the bowl to get all of the weed out (meaning hold the lighter over the bowl to get every little bit of weed on your last hit). Then just blow through the piece and suck in to get any ash out of it.

Packing the bowl is easy...once the stuff is picked apart, just drop it into the bowl and fill it. If you don't have a screen, put a bigger piece of weed over the hole in the piece (but not obstructing it) so that all your weed doesn't fall through before you can smoke it. Then just light up, and inhale as you light it. You can light a corner to conserve greens a bit, too...don't need to torch the whole bowl. As for the smoking - if your piece has a carb (hole on the side of the piece), cover that and inhale while it's lit. Then release the carb and suck out all the smoke still in the piece. After you have that, inhale plain air until you can't inhale anymore (swallowing might help, too). The biggest problem for me when I first started to smoke was that I wasn't really inhaling the smoke all the way when I thought I was. If you haven't done it before, you don't really know what it's like and might think you're getting it when you're not. Hold it in for 5-7 seconds (or as long as you can), then exhale....and yeah, coughing isn't a bad thing...it gets you higher quicker.

what exactly is a nug?

And is bud just the leafy stuff that I will end up puttin in the piece (that which isn't a seed or stem)?

A nug and bud are the same thing. The "bud" is what grows off of a marijuana plant that contains thc, which is what gets you high.

If you look at this plant, see what all the yellow hairs are coming off of? That is called the bud of the plant



Growers cut the bud off and trim the leaves, because leaves contain very little thc and are usually more of a nuisance than anything else. Whats left is just regular bud or "nug". Nug I'm pretty sure is just a slang term for trimmed and dried bud



For your second question yes, bud is sometimes leafy, and yes, that is the part that you put in your bowl and smoke. It's usually better if its not leafy, but if it is it's not big deal really.

also.. if lit correctly, will I need to re-light the bud once it is lit or will it burn straight through (on only one light) until it is ash?

Check your pms again but:


Relight the bowl as you deem necessary. What you really want is to cherry the bowl. Or get the bowl to have an ember burning in it. Once that happens then you don't need to light it anymore. Until you want to take another hit. Then re-cherry the bowl.

Bud is a common term used for weed in general, but A bud is pretty much the same as a nug. If you really want to know exactly what it is that you're smoking, go look at some of the pictures in the grow section of the forums of mature plants (buds are the female seed producing part of the plant, which is why you sometimes find seeds in them). Although this descriptions probably not necessary since i think it'll be simple once you actually have/see it.

Hold the lighter to it and suck in, until you start to see the weed light, then pull the lighter away. If your cherry goes out while your sucking in and you still want a bigger hit re light it until it cherrys again, don't hold the lighter to it for too long though because you will roast the weed and get a bigger hit than you want.
