First glass pieces...some questions

Hey guys I'm on vacation with the gf for a few days here in Quebec City. I remembered that there was a couple head shops/novelty teeshirt stores from when i was here on a school trip 8-9 years ago. Anyways i picked up my first glass pieces, one is a simple, small, clear, beaker style, two piece bong (Bowl and downtube one unit), w carb hole. Its thin walled, and cheaply made and i expect them to break within the year, but theres no sense in buying a $100+ bong when i have no money and its my first glass. The other is a small pipe with some blue swirly. Sorry bout the pics, we forgot our digicam back home and i just took 'em with my cell phone in our hotel bathroom. My question is, the blue swirlys go across the bowl of the pipe, and when i light the bowl area with a lighter it gets this black dingy film all over it, plus it gives off a black smoke. Is this bad? It appears this swirly is actually painted on, can i scrape it off? I tried the bowl on the bong, no such blackness. i haven't smoked out of it yet, (we're dry....fuck...lol) just waiting till we go to Montreal and get weed from the gf's sister lol.

don't worry about the black stuff. that's just something that happens with you burn glass. it happens on all my pieces too. once you get some resin in there it won't even show.

if you put your lighter next to glass black stuff(that is really easy to whip off) like goes on to the glas so its not painted it just happened to new pipes like the guy above me said when you get it all resinated then that should stop happening

hope you guys are right.....the nasty black film was easy to wipe off...but it was really thick....not the same black film on a burnt out light bulb for example.

meh i'll just have to blaze and find out for my self.
