Is Aluminum Foil Safe To Use as a Bowl

Here is what I found when I did some searching.

What Is Known About Aluminum Foil

Aluminum foil is very pure- in fact it is 99.9% pure, with the .1% being various residues from the manufacturing process that are burned off at low temperature and other impurities found within the material.

Humans contact aluminum from various sources throughout their everyday routines. Common uses for aluminum are: food (naturally occurring) & food additives, antacids & other pharmaceuticals, cooking utensils, soil, drinking water, air, and electronics.

Aluminum has a shiny and a dull side- there is no difference to the two sides, this is caused by the manufacturing of aluminum. The sheets are too thin to cut one at a time, so they cut two pieces at a time, causing a shiny and dull side.

Average human intake of aluminum is around 3grams (a little higher inCanada because the drinking water is treated with higher concentrations of aluminum).

Aluminum, at temperatures below melting point, does not give off gas or vapor.

What Is Alzheimer’s Disease?

Alzheimer’s Disease is a progressive disease that affects the brain- causing mental deterioration, disorientation, depression, memory lapses.

When studies have been perform on patients with Alzheimer’s Disease scientist have found that patients have high concentration (10-30 times the normal) of Aluminum in their systems.

Studies were conducted in order to find out if people who drink water with high concentrations of aluminum had a higher risk at developing Alzheimer’s Disease. These studies did show there was an increased risk- HOWEVER, studies have been done where individuals drank water without being treated with aluminum and found the same risk of developing Alzheimer’s.

These two test indicate that there may be genetic reasons why some individuals develop Alzheimer’s.

Studies performed on patients have not found a common factor in the development of Alzheimer’s Disease

Scientist do not know if Alzheimer’s Disease causes higher concentrations of aluminum, or if it is caused by high concentrations of aluminum.

Smoking Using Aluminum Foil

Most brands of aluminum foil (Renoyld’s Wrap with the anti-stick coating and similar brands being the exception), are untreated and remain 99.9% aluminum (again with the .1% being residues and other agents in the manufacturing process)

In order to inhale aluminum it would have to be changed from a solid to a vapor. This requires a lot of heat. More heat than what it produced by a butane lighter. A butane lighter is not even capable of melting aluminum, if a lighter fails to melt the aluminum, it will not be able to change the aluminum into a vapor.

What are your thoughts on it? Its just so damn convenient. It shapes into anything, you can poke holes in it easily, and its abundant within our homes.

yeah, man it's safe.

it even says in the article that burning aluminum foil doesn't give off any gases or any shit like that unless it's being burnt at it's melting point. so, unless it's turning all gooey and shit you should be fine, haha.

AluminiumMelting Point: 933.47 K (660.32 °C, 1220.58 °F)

Unless you have a scientific oven for a lighter...

as far as I know, the negative thing about using aluminum foil is because there is a coating of aluminum oxide or something on the foil which is vaporized when put under such heat. the thing is though, is that you can remove that coating simply by running the flame over the piece and it's good to go.

this is what I've come to understand. maybe it's wrong.

Aluminum melts at 1220.58 degrees Fahrenheit home torches get to about 3000 degrees Fahrenheit (but it really depends on which you're using, this example does use butane fuel.)

Quote:
Flame temperatures of common items include a blowlamp at 1,300°C, a candle at 1,400°C [2], or a much hotter oxyacetylene combustion at 3,000°C. Cyanogen produces an ever-hotter flame with a temperature of over 4525°C (8180°F) when it burns in oxygen.[
So even a candle can go over the melting point of the aluminum foil.

The boiling point however is 4566 degrees Fahrenheit. Nothing you're using to light up will boil aluminum (Even a household torch).

Is is completely safe? Possibly, but i wouldn't suggest repeated use, there are other safer solutions.

I don't completely buy that. Consider this;

When aluminum foil has been repeatedly heated it eventually becomes brittle, and will crack and crumble easily, as compared to the pre-heated state of total flexibility.

The heat is enough to crispify the aluminum, so it must be cooking something off of there (changes on a molecular level taking place in the aluminum).

Plus the thick black smoke that initially comes off of it really, really spooks me.

I'm sure what he is trying to say is that the myth about aluminum foil causing Alzheimers is untrue. He didn't say it's ok to smoke out of a foil pipe, or to even use it at all.

My opinion is that an aluminum bowl is alright when used in a crutch, but if it's your everyday smoker then you may be in trouble.

I use aluminum foil all the time for two reasons:

1. I don't have to carry around a pipe that wreaks of weed, and that would make me wreak of weed.

2. I'm too damn cheap to buy a piece. I'd rather spend the money on more weed.
