help a newb figure out what went wrong

ehehe... so i made a failed attempt at making "honey oil" at least i think thats what its called... if im wrong plz correct me

anyways i took some herb i figured was too old and threw it in a cup with some rubbing alcohol.
i let that sit for 24 hrs, then i strained out the weed and set the cup outside to let it dry. i didnt put it in a wide dish because i didnt want to ruin any of my dishes, so i used the same cup i was using earlier.
so because of that, it took a LONG time to dry, but i expected that much.
anyways i had to leave it out for a couple of days, which was a mistake i think because i think over night some dew would get in the cup. after a while i knew all the alcohol was gone, but there was still liquid (water) in the cup. so, i boiled some water in a pot and put the cup in there trying to heat up the water and evaporate it. that didnt work too well, so i just put the cup under a fan and let it blow on it for a while.
all the water evaporated, but all i was left with was brown residue on the bottom of my cup. no oily, sticky substance. it was just dry residue. there seemed to be a very little amount of crystal or something shiny at the bottom (might have been just the cup or something).

anyways this was just an experiment, so i used very little weed. like less than 1.5 g i think. i just wanted to see if it would work and see if i could get at least a little oil.

so what went wrong? why was it all dried out? was it cuz of the water that got in it?
ps i did scrape some of the residue out of the cup and tried to smoke it, but it was hard to smoke (it was all powdery) and i didnt feel a thing heh

U dont let it sit bro. You put your weed in a blender with rubbing alchohol. and then poor the contents into a pan and heat it until all the alchohol evaporates. Then u strain it and wut yer left with is hash oil. Tryst me it works well. take seeds out before putting it in the blender and blend it until its chopped up pretty damn good but not to much.

oh ive read that u let it sit for a while... i figured it was to let the alcohol extract more thc and stuff..

hey, just for reference, you may want to try a more *specific topic to get more answers, people may overlook this. but if they saw something they knew, they would def. help for sure. sorry i cant help...
