glass pipes v. metal pipes?

Hey.. Hopefully someone can just help me out. I just
bought a gram of weed (3 small nugs) from a friend
and i want to smoke it. Unfortunately, it's been a while
since college and I don't have anything on me. I'm considering getting a bong or a pipe.. but I'm going with
pipe because it's more discreet.

So what should I really go with - glass or metal? What's
the difference between the two in terms of getting high?

Also, any specific feedback on on price/weight of
what I paid would be helpful.. I got a gram for $20 from
a pretty good friend here, and I live in the Bay Area, CA.
He says it's just medium grade stuff. Nothing special.

hits smoother and shit. you can also smoke a long time without getting your fingers burnt or having to worry about any chemicals

hehe.. do you have braces or anything... i have a permanent metal retainer on my bottom teeth and when i smoke out of a metal pipe the taste is nasty... go with glass

I would probably go for glass if I were you. Metal pipes do tend to get hot, although I have never really been able to taste any difference. You do have to mess with screens in a metal pipe though, and that can be a pain. Also I have heard that smoking out of metal is not really healthy because the heat can release chemicals in the metal. Metal pipes do tend to travel better though. You don't have to worry about breaking them like with glass. They can also be simpler to use because most don't have a carb like most glass pieces, just lite and hit. I have one metal and one glass and I prefer the glass unless I am going to be carrying it around a lot or letting a lot of other people smoke out of it (more chance to be dropped).

glass is just cooler. A really sweet CCG glass piece is like smoking the benteley of the stoner world.

I prefer glass, but I have a metal pipe for when I've got to take it somewhere and I don't want it to break.

$20.oo for a gram is pretty par for the course in the CA. We've got really high prices,but we've also got someof the best stuff.

I've got a cheap ass little meerschaum pipe that's cool if you're short on cash. Glass would be the best thing to get tho.

yeah i have a glass but i wanna get a metal for backup and if im gonna be going to a party or something where theres a good chance it could get dropped

go with metal...but only if youre getting a quality metal spoon though (if you can find one), as those, like the one i have, tend to even stay cooler than glass and is just as effective. plus it wont ever break on you. anything else thats metal (from what ive seen) isnt worth it.

Is it possible for metal to stay cooler than glass under the same type of flame? ive took many many hits off my spoon (glass) and its never even gotten warm.

This is kinda off of the topic but, ever considered a wooden pipe? They stay cool like a glass pipe and you don't have worry about a carb.

i would chose glass also, because when i smoke out of a metal pipe i got that nasty taste in my mouth.

i use a "stone-type" pipe, its like an animal, cant remember which one, pretty sweet tho, got for 10$
