Freedom Card

Anyone ever seen this? I think it is brilliant and every stoner should have one. It is a card that has all of your rights on it. If you ever encounter the cops and they start giving you trouble, you give them the card and it explains all the rights you should and wish to invoke. Enjoy!

That's exactly why I think it is a good idea. I don't want to have to worry about my rights when I am dealing with the stress of the police; that is what the card is there to help supplement.

this is a bad idea.. if you go about spouting all your rights, you better have a damn good understanding of what your doing or youll get fucked twice as hard, i promise you.

realize when you do that, your telling them how to do their job. I know when someone does that to me, i give them as much shit as possible

yes sir, no sir, utter respect and sincere admittance to what you did wrong is the best way to handle any cop encounter

I agree with what you're saying... throwing a few lines in a cops face about your rights might land your ass in the back of squad car even if you don't have anything on you.

Although, if used properly it could be VERY helpful in certain situations.

The cops here will ask almost EVERY time they pull someone over for a traffic violation - even if it's something as stupid as a turn signal light out... There have been a few instances that I wish I would have had this card on me.... I've never been caught with anything but still.... it's a bit ridiculous when you're asked to allow a dog search your car every fucking time you get pulled over.

this is so untrue. the best way to handle any cop encounter is to be polite and don't say ANYTHING except you want a lawyer if you're under arrest. if you're not under arrest, don't say anything incriminating, in fact straight up deny anything even if you know its a lie, or just play dumb. the law system doesn't work based on what happened, it works based on what you can prove happened. admitting what you did wrong to the cops, whether under arrest or not, is a 100% guaranteed way to get busted. remember, innocent until proven guilty.

and this card is a really good idea, I think I'll keep one just for the hell of it.

I appreciate your input skittles but I think you're missing the point I was trying to make. I would use this card well after I have used the yes sir, no sir thing with him/her, but I would never admit to anything done wrong. If you admit what you did wrong, you might as well show up to court in a tshirt and baggy jeans because you have no chance either way. I have always been led to understand that you always treat the police with respect, but never admit guilt under any circumstances until you have had time to seek the counsel of a lawyer. You may in fact be telling them how to do their job but remember two things, one their job is to bust your ass (not what YOU want to happen I'm sure), and two they work for YOU. You pay taxes, you're part of this community and they are there to serve and protect all of us; would it not be your right to politely tell them what they can and cannot do with your property?
When I heard of this card, and imagined when I would ever use it, it would most likely be used, in my opinion, when I was being arrested and/or detained and I had nothing more to say until having talked to a lawyer; thus why I would hand over a card instead of opening my mouth. Handing over a card expressing the rights you wish to exercise guarantees that you won't further incriminate yourself.
A piece of paper is no excuse for using your head, but it would never hurt to keep around as a reference tool.
That being said, I don't know if there is one for in Canada but a good place to look would be NORML. I know they are active in Canada as well and if they do not have one, they may be able to help you find one.
Anyhow, just my two cents. Peace

That might be nice for when you are to fucked up to want to talk and incriminate yourself, but normally, im good with words an id prefer talk to the cop. An if they do shit cause you say what rights you are taking advantage of, they are pretty fucked, just keep your mouth shut, aside from mentioning it's a violation of your constitutional rights, to hold you against your will with no probable cause to make them you did anything wrong. knowing your rights is NOT a crime, no is flexing them. This is on its way to a police state when you are afraid to exert your rights, and think you will be arrested if you do.... I'm sorry, its all ready one... but I can dream.

(edit) if your gunna use it, edit it and remove any mention of NORML..... that could ALMOST pass for probable cause.

I'm sure if you called NORML and asked about it they would be more than willing to help. I have talked to reps on the phone from NORML a few times for friends and they have ALWAYS been happy to answer my questions.

edit: i meant that in reference to the whole canadian card thing.

ok i phrased that admitting part wrong..

what im trying to say is that (most) cops arent stupid and know if your up to something. Obviously you dont say anything incrimidating but dont look like your hiding anything either. When you just say you wont talk to you speak to a lawer, talk about your rights, ect, Thats basically provoking then to get you on as many things as they can.

Cops WILL lie and their word is very hard to beat in court

IMO youd be better off carying a PBA card..

I absolutely agree that busting out the card or saying you won't talk without a lawyer is not going to make the problem go away. But if i were being detained and I was more than likely to go to jail, it is a lot easer to say in court "I handed the officer a written statement invoking my rights." than it is to challenge the word of the officer. It's definately not a get-out-of-jail-free card but it is definately something that people should be aware of, especially those that are not very secure in their knowlege of their rights. It's not for everyone, and not for all circumstances, but does have some value in our community.

Btw, those that asked about the canadian card, I found this, ironicly on a similear thread. Sorry for the double thread but here you go: http://forum.grasscity.com/legalizat...ml#post1738663
