The grommet (little rubber dealie) that connects 'traditional' not GonG bongs holds the downstem in the bong and can be removed. Just pull outward on your downstem, it requires some force but do it very slowly and just gradually ease it out.

Okay I have a grommet on my slide and on my bong, your talking about the one actually on the bong right? Also, should I do anything with the grommet while removing the downstem, like twist it or move it up a little but, or should I just pull the downstem.
