Interesting article. Essentially the cool bit is that the brain exhibits a natural ceiling effect to a high by inhibiting activation of cannabinoid receptors after a while.

Most of the other things the article talks about are biased and outdated though, which is understandable as it was written 10 years ago.

a common argument brought up by bong supporters, honestly i really think its more of how you smoke a joint, compared to a bong, when you smoke a bong, the bong cools the smoke and chambers it, thus enabling you to take a large hit without much effort. A joint on the other hand, most people just smoke it like a cig.

The thing is, if you got yourself a nicely rolled joint with no runs, if your lungs can handle it and your willing to do so, you can take bigger hits with a joint.

think about it, with a bong your using the vaccum from your lungs to create a vaccum in the bong and fill it up. With a joint you have the weed directly in your mouth, thus allowing for the most efficient (but harsher) path.

so basically, the only reason you see bongs as getting you higher is because its easier to cram a shitload of smoke in your lungs, joints are much harsher but much more direct, so theoretically joints are more efficient, and bongs are just more lung friendly

It all really comes down to how much smoke you can fit in your lungs to get as high as possible as fast as possible, a gravity bong usually gets people the highest because it actually forces smoke into your lungs.

Wow, this is a wicked article, i love reading stuff or watchin documentaries about what im smoking, and this thing tells me so much. But i thought it was THC that made you 'stoned' and cannabinol that made you 'high' or 'buzzin' cos i caught a sick documentary about ganja on sky3 (or BBC3, i forgot which) where this woman got injected with pure THC, and she got proper paranoid a over cautious about everything. Then they gave her pure cannabinol, (they called this cannabinoid though) and she was barrel of laughs!

Nah man, i think it just explains why you can still have serious red-eye, and not really feel stoned at all, two factors which i used to think went hand in hand. It also shows that you are still buzzing (hence the colour of your eyes) because you can still see the affects ganja has on your appearance, but you just dont realise it, the receptors that are associated with 'feeling stoned' must just adapt to how often you smoke. The way i justify this is when im smoking a lot of sensi while making music or drawing, my head is still full of inspiration and ideas, but i dont feel 'heavy', 'confused', 'disorientated' etc.

Maybe they mean that if you smoke from a vaporizer, or any other pipe which doesn't use water, you inhale more tar in relation to the amount of cannabis you intake, but bongs are designed to filter out the crap in weed, so you get a higher level THC intake and less tar, whereas if you smoke a zoot, there are more places for the THC to 'build up', like in the roach, plus most brits mix tobacco into their spliffs (im ashamed), so you would obviously get less THC per burn, than the level you would get per hit in a bong or dry pipe.
