| The Truth About Marijuana
I just saw a ton of referral traffic from a different pot forum, on a blog post I had posted on marijuana usage leading to other drug usage. I had mentioned the new Foundation for a Drug-Free World site, the nifty animated smoker on the front, and the fact that the site had a message delivering the truth about marijuana. I got back a slew of various comments and such saying that basically that I had no right posting such a thing, as well as some "hee hee hee" posts saying that the site was making them more likely to smoke than not. Now, I feel quite strongly about the fact that marijuana usage can lead straight into usage of more hard-core drugs, which can have an even more destructive effect on peoples' lives. There are all manner of arguments about the relative seriousness of marijuana (something I'm not totally going to get into here, in a marijuana forum) but I felt that between my blog post, and the site's page itself on marijuana, that this point is made pretty clear -- but I get all manner of different opinions on this. So, rather than just engage in a flamewar, I'm actually interested in what you think about this -- after reading a site such as this on joints, what that would make one think if one was a youth not yet involved in drugs. |

I have just recently been thinkin about this particular subject, I was actualy caught with my princess (The Chronic princess of course.) by my parents today. I was planning on telling them soon as I am 18 and its really my choice I would say by now, but of course I dont want to go into detail on how I was caught but I made a stupid mistake (FAR TO OFF SUBJECT). Anyways, I was sat down by my parents who are strong christains and told basically that if I smoke my princess I will be doing meth by the weeks end. Of course I believe that it is your own choice whether or not you get sucked into stronger/dangerous drugs. For example, recently I was completely out of marijuana and I was craving some sort of high, I tested Salvia and realized that I was doing just what everyone says, getting sucked into other more harmful medication. The minute a thought of this I promised myself that I wouldnt let myself crave anything again... Which goes to say that not all potheads get sucked into abuse of other drugs, COMPLETELY is up to the user. |

I've been offered other drugs. Shrooms acid and coke. I said no. I would have been asked anyways even if I don't smoke weed. I don't see the deal with Marijuana. Yeah, it effects my memory but, I managed to graduate highschool with a 94 university course average. I'm not nerdy I chill "with the cool kids". It's up to the person in the first place.

It happens. I think most people here know at least one person who started smoking weed, and then moved on to other drugs. But is it common? Also, when you say things like "weed is a gateway drug" you COMPLETELY ignore the individual's capacity for ration and decision-making. Pot is not the sort of drug that takes over your brain and makes you into a completely different person. If someone was going to do Heroin, they probably wouldn't need a "soft drug" to push them there. Even if there was no pot, alcohol, or tobacco in the world, people would still do "hard drugs". I think it's not as much that pot causes the gateway effect, more that a certain kind of pot-user is likely to do hard drugs. Correlation doesn't necessarily imply causation. |

However - it's the exact same argument as to why one wouldn't want to start a 7-year-old kid on ritalin. Once drugs are the 'solution' (even if a completely false solution) to one of their problems, it can be the solution for other things -- and makes it okay to try harder and harder drugs. | |

| I don't see pot as a gateway drug at all. I know tons of people that smoke and most of them, including yours truly, have turned down hardcore drugs even while high. I believe that pot gets mistaken as a gateway drug b/c must of the people that do the hardcore drugs started off smoking pot. Most of them probably would have still ended up doing those drugs if pot did not exist. <O ![]() I’m a natural type of guy and this allows me to do weed and shrums b/c they can be found in nature. And i find it really funny when Christens think that smoking weed is against gods will, when weed is a god made plant. And in some cultures, like Native Americans, smoking is actually part of religious practices and brings them closer to their gods.<O ></O >Just something to think about.<O |

How do you know that that site holds any relevance? I have read it and most of it seems like complete government bullshit. Marijuana doesn't affect people's ethics or morals, don't be ignorant. I have been smoking for a very long time, maybe longer than you've been alive, and I have not once had the urge to steal anything, or damage property. The person is the one who makes the descision to steal, or damage property. Marijuana does not effect that descision. If marijuana does anything it makes me more peaceful. Have you ever tried the drug? I am guessing you haven't. Please show some respect and try something before you flame it, it is nieve. I have tried many hallucinogenics over the years and I have not changed as a person, and even if I have I can assure you it is not in a bad way. I am probably one of the nicest, most laid back guy you will ever meet. Why waste your time fighting against a harmless drug when you could be spending your time fighting against drugs that are actually dangerous, like meth or heroin? I have no respect for people like you. Ignorant, nieve people offend me when they tell me I am killing brain cells and getting cancer. The government lies, especially the one we have now. Please learn to be a little more open minded about things.
