Question about Vaporizer

Ok so I made a half decent light bulb vaporizer, and I'm waiting to smoke it but I have a quick question first considering I've never hit one before. I have been told by some sites to cover all the holes at the top so the bulb is air tight when you light the bottom to vaporize the weed, and I've seen videos where they dont cover any on the holes (carb and pen hole) on the lid and just light it. What I'm wondering is what the best way to do it is, covering all the holes, or not covering them. I know if i covered up the 2 holes at the top, I couldn't light it for too long, otherwise it'd explode (maybe?). Anyways yeah I wouldnt mind some feedback.
