Can anyone relate? It just all seems so false, its all about buying and buying. I personally cant stand it. Im stuck inside with my family and its fucking cold. And worse yet, I have to spend my money on them and i dont even really like them. Every Christmas I get depressed. The stress gets to be too much, Id rather not deal with it.
I hear you on that one man. I have actually suggested skipping christmas this year, but they obviously want christmas. So now i have to spend all my money on people i dont want to spend money on.
I don't get people shit, ever. If they buy me something, its their loss. Christmas fucking blows, everyone is like "KEEP CHRIST IN CHRISTMAS" while they know that thier kids are more concerned with santa claus than some jew being born in a desert that did a few majic tricks.
I don't hate it, I just think it's a tragic waste of resources. Surely you'll agree that the notion of giving gifts to others can be genuine and noble. But the sight of dozens of trees on sidewalks here in New York City has been making me ask the question every few years.. Could we be allocating our funds in some better way? Think of all the manpower. The electrical equipment. The megatons of plastic, glass, wood, paper, to manufacture Christmas. All the ornaments. All the trees. All the crap. The number of dollars wasted on Christmas alone in America is in the trillions. If America just put aside one year per decade where it cut all the commercialism crap, the entire world could be fed five times a day, with seconds, if they like. Nice signature, billy. I get what your saying. I feel the same. To me it just seems like a holiday were everyone buys stuff, and "christmas" is just a excuse for big companys to make money.
Im taking such pessimistic view of it all, but its actually how I feel. I look around the public (I work in a grocery store) and I watch the madness. Is it just me, or is the general population fucking idiots? i think thats a thread for its own..
i too tend to more depressed than usual around the holidays... but not cause of the gift giving, mostly because there's all these advertisements depicting all these happy couples in love or happy families giving and sharing and laughing, and i don't have any of that...
eh im not religious or anything, but i really dont mind christmas at all. but im not gonna lie, nothing puts me in the holiday spirit better than yelling 'merry christmas' to a bunch of by-standers and promptly flicking them off when they look at me.
i love my family and i love the feeling of being with them on the holidays but i hate the buying shit part. i can appreciate my family with you giving/recaiving any thing, i do it all year round. at least its not as bad as valintines day, THATS a pointless "holiday"

i get mad anxiety around christmas.. i cant even spend it alone in my room cause i start having panic attacks.. christmas is such unnessisary stress, especially at work
You're right. It's all about "giving and recieving." More like, "mom when do I get my 500 dollars worth of new stuff." Oh well that's the way our deeply rutted country has always functioned, there is no way to fix it.
