As long as you're active you can carry whatever you're issued, you could also keep guns after you serve your time, most veterans do.

I'm pretty sure you're not suppose to drink, but most troops do anyway.
LOL where are you getting this info? Cuz its almost all wrong...sorry if i sounded like a dick

Re: Navy Seals (Few questions)

Alright

1. Does anyone know any specifics about death rates? are they low, high, what? Unsure, but relative to other branches it would probably be lower.
2. Do they teach you how to swim, or do you have to go in knowing how to swim good? lol You should really know how to swim. You WILL be doing some sort of water training no matter what branch you enter. And you WILL have to swim in full battle gear, rifle and all.
3. When can you retire? Its usually 20 years to retire with a pension and full benefits
4. When off base, are you granted the ability to carry around a gun, on you or in your car? and could you also carry around a knife larger than a states legal size? Youd have to have a CCW permit in the state your carrying, being in the military doesnt give you special permission to carry. And the knife would still be illegal.
5. What are good benefits of becoming a seal? Couldnt tell you
6. Do you get to drink or anything? You can drink, within reason. If you get in trouble with the MPs for drinking, youd get a whole bunch of shit from people above you. And im sure being in an elite division would get you more trouble. They do random drug tests as well, and if you get caught theres some penaltys you could be facing. But honestly, a lot of the people in the military do drugs, no matter what you hear.

Re: Navy Seals (Few questions)

Oh yeah and btw to join any part of the navy you have to pass a swim test, i don't know specifics on the US one...

To be a SEAL you need to be able to swim VERY well, and then they'll kick your ass until you can swim like a champ

If you can't swim, I wouldn't go into any branch of the military. Also, paratroopers are not the same as Navy SEALS.

Re: Navy Seals (Few questions)

Thanks everyone, and yeah I'm going to learn to swim good before I go in, just wanted some basic info.

Any additional facts or info that anyone has about the Navy Seals would be much appreciated, thanks.

Re: Navy Seals (Few questions)

My friends dad was a SEAL. Never asked him much - but as other people have said, you can't just "decide" to become a SEAL. It's Elite, meaning you're going to have to start at the bottom and work your way up by being the best.

@Durban Poison, your name looks familiar, do we have relations? =p

Re: Navy Seals (Few questions)

All I can say is, "Thinking about joining the SEALs"; is one of the dumbest statements, ever.
I can tell you now, you wont make it.

Especially if you're asking if they teach you how to swim.

Just kidding, you will make it no problem!

Lmao, yeah I'm not worried at all, and I'm in great physical condition, but I just wanted to know a few questions that were cycling around in the back of my mind, if I go to training, there's no way I'm going to waste my time failing, I'd have to die before I give up on becoming a seal if I take the time to go there and try out.

Well, friend, I actually have a copy of a Warning Order, if you would like I could look for it, and answer any questions that you have about navy SEALs.
And just an example, before you even can go into training, you must pass a PRT before.
The test before initial training includes,
Swim 500 yards using breast and/or sidestroke in 12 minutes and 30 seconds, 10 minutes rest, then do 42 pushups, in 2 minutes, rest for 2 minutes, do 50 situps in 2 minutes, rest for 2 minutes, do 8 pull-ups, rest for 10 minutes, then run 1.5miles wearing your boots and pants in 11 minutes and 30 seconds.

And believe me, all that is EASY compared to what lies behind the curtain.

Re: Navy Seals (Few questions)

No offense but if you're posting on these forums, you're probably not what they're looking for. My friends brother went through SEAL training and he said at the culmination they actually drown you and bring you back so that you don't fear drowning.

Lol, no they don't.
They wouldn't risk losing the hundreds of thousands they spend on training you to risk losing you for "so you don't fear drowning"

And to say that, about people posting here not being what they look for, is pretty bold statement; as most military personnel do drugs, whether you'd like to believe that or not, it's true.

Thanks for clearing up Construct the idiots response. It's a forum, it's not like I can't ask questions on it, and asking questions on a forums has NOTHING to do with what I can or cant do, and just because I post on the forums doesn't mean that I'm probably not what they're looking for, like I said, you know nothing about me, I can ask whoever I want questions, whenever I want.

Well anyway, does anyone know about the pay of Navy Seals? I heard you are also provided a house, do they choose where your house is or do you get to choose or anything?
