New project for my history class.

I am a History student at a university in MD. And am taking a class on commodities and how the making and harvesting these products have changed the surroundings. I have to create a powerpoint presentation and write a 4-5 paged encyclopedia article on a certain commodity. And as the professor is explaining to the class the work required, I get a great idea. I am doing my work for the semester on Hemp. Why is the resource not used and why the US govt had issues with it and still does? This is gonna be a great semester, since I have another class based solely on the 1960's. Anyway what you guys think of my project idea?

it sounds great, but hemp is illegal because it looks like marijuana.
That's exactly the reason given by leo, they say they can't tell the difference so hemp has to be illegal.
