A person does not need to smoke marijuana to know what a bong is, don't kid yourself.
And unless you know of this persons geographical location how would you know what the legal consequences are? Either way, I doubt this mother, who doesn't support marijuana, wants her name in the paper regarding drug related charges.

Personally, if I lived with my parents I wouldn't have all this paraphernalia lying around. I wish my parents felt the same way about weed as I do, but I am aware that they don't so I would not have all kinds of bongs and pipes in their house.

It's just an issue of considering the consequences before you do something.

When a parent strongly disapproves of weed, and you're still living under their roof, you aren't going to have the same freedoms you'd have at your own place.

Knowing your parents disapprove, spending 700 dollars on glass and keeping it in their house, then expecting them to just let it slide if they find it? Well, that's a little naive if you ask me.
I agree with him, it sucks still... but you know...

Definitely agree on this, I didn't keep hardly any glass in the house back when my parents were not OK with it, just my one $25 bowl. Only after a lot of things changed big time did I start actually building a collection because I know all my glass would have met a similar fate if they found it back in the day. So yeah, as others have said that really really really sucks, and I will be packing a few bowls tonight in memory of your glass, but at the same time you kinda had to know what a big risk you were taking...

Right, because cops often do spot checks and enter homes to check for bongs. Though I do wonder how she found them. If he just left them sitting in the open... well that's just stupid. But if she searched through his stuff in his room, hmm. That would certainly infuriate me.

And what else do you think she would do with it? Sell it? Give it to a stoner friend that she probably doesn't have?
How are these her only options? You make it sound like stumbling upon her son's bong has put her into a state of irresistible impulse. Let's see, she could... not break it? Give it back to him and tell him a) I want this gone or b) you're out of the house.

I don't know the op personally, but I do know that he lives nearby me and that he mentioned he went to the high school here. Which would most likely make him a white middle upper class teenage guy.

First off, I don't disagree with parents searching a kids room. They own it don't they? I always think it's funny when bratty kids say how it's an invasion of privacy, if it weren't for their parents they wouldn't have had any belonging to search through to begin with. Now that doesn't mean I believe that once you get a job and a home of your own that they have the right to come over and search your shit, but if you are under their roof you should always understand that them searching through your stuff is a possibility.
And it's not the fact that the cops WILL come in, but if there were any reason that they needed to come in, whatever it may be, they could come across it. Just because there might be a small chance that a cop ever found this stuff, does not mean a person will want to harbor these illegal items.

Again, her house. She could say, "I want this gone" and he says, "Okay" and just hides it better or has a friend hold onto it for a while, once the smoke settles (pun intended) he brings it back over. And maybe she understands he has no where else to go. And we don't even know his age, if he is still in school I doubt she would want him to move out. And even if he is out of school she doesn't want him to be homeless, completely understandable.

She finds something illegal (and something she is most likely against the use of) in her house and decides the best thing to do with it is to destroy it. It was her decision, I don't know what she was thinking and while I disagree with her actions I still find them to be understandable and justifiable.
Sounds like that is more drastic than breaking them anyway.

i agree with junkiedays....shes pretty much taken over this thread and her point is one that is really hard to disprove....its very simple if your parents dont want you smoking weed in their house and they find your pieces its perfectly fair for them to do it...theyve done it to me i came home one summer and they brought me into the garage to show me something..it was two of my bowls and they then smashed them on the ground in front of me....i thought doing it in front of me was a lil harsh but i respected the fact that they did it.....their house their rules and they dish out punishments when you break those rules
