Why our Country is Going Down The Drain

  1. I am an avid Ron Paul supporter and of course I don't agree with the modern welfare system, but usually I think mainstream conservatives spend too much time whining about the system. However this video disturbs me and it makes me wonder how many people receiving money are like this guy.

  2. My Grandmother a hardcore liberal and Obama supporter is even disturbed by the attitude towards welfare in this country. It used to be a shameful and temporary situation when going on the government dole. Now people feel they are entitled to it and have no shame. My sister does not work yet has free healthcare and gets a check for "disability" from the state each month. She is FULLY capable of working.

  3. Their are a lot, but a small minority I would believe. I think the money needs to be refocused clearly, and modifications are needed also.

I think a significant portion of the money going into llow income households/areas should be aimed at prevention. Early education and strong community organization.

I don't believe cutting money and just hiring more cops will really curve the trend of shit neighborhoods staying shitty.

  4. I agree. Its also a lot easier to get it today. The process is simpler.

I know someone who is bipolar (not severe) and you'd never know it if he didnt tell you.

He lives off disability. In my opinion, this is the majority of it.

It is a big problem, and is way too socially acceptable. Get off the fucking couch.

And as far as the video, yeah fuck that roachin ass motherfucker.

    I hate people like that.

Even people who aren't exactly like him shouldn't get it.

  6. One of my friends legitimately qualifies for disability but works two full time jobs, 80 hours a week, and does physically suffer majorly at times, but refuses to get government assistance. Partly because one of his jobs is located next to a DES building and people come in and use their food stamps for soda, candy, and potato chips. But majorly because of his character, how he was raised, etc.

Just thought I'd restore your faith in Americans...

  7. Thats fucking badass.

  8. Yeah all that money being stolen by frauds could do some real change..

But I wonder how you could weed out the fakes, government ddoctors to make sure an SSI candidate is legitimate, or hired workers that check on households to make sure all is true on the food stamps application?

Its kind of a hard thing to do, are their any current proposals on how to fix it?

  9. I don't have an exact answer to your question, but it is my understanding that applying for a lot of these benefits is much simpler and quicker than it used to be. I.E. getting on the computer and applying, whereas you used to have to go to some sort of office, I believe. The face to face versus computerized method probably weeded out a lot of moochers.

It would make sense too, that the computerized methods make it cheaper (the gov hires fewer employees), but WAY too many people get accepted.

In my opinion it should have to be a pretty extreme case.

  10. Yeah, I'd like for my friend to have a conversation with the guy in the Obamacare topic about his cousin not being able to work for more than 20 hours because of her condition.

I try to offer him money all the time when he's in rough spots, (WITHOUT GOVERNMENT COERCION OMG FUCK!) but he refuses all the time.

Yeah I agree, I think "emergency" benefits are being given to a lot of people that could support themselves if they would cut back alittle more on their expensives,

I bet plenty of those people getting food stamps have an iPhone or android phone, and cable & internet at home.

But would rather take the handout than alter their lifestyle

  12. Bingo. Yet some people want to expand the programs.

  13. Anyone who wants to expand the system as it is is completely an idiot. Its clearly broken and been broken ..

We should probably redefine what "poverty" actually is, its way above other nations standards I believe.

  14. And you are FULLY capable of opening your mouth and giving your sister a solid dose of your opinion.

    Every single day.

Blood is thicker than water. Make her feel it if you are tired of paying her way, every single day you go to work and she doesn't. Make your parents call her. Make her friends call her. Every single day.

Only way anyone is going to get off their ass these days is if you make them feel bad enough to want to.

And if you choose to not say a word, then don't even think about complaining about your taxes.

  15. I think a better course of action would be to give her job listings parts of newspapers, tell her where is hiring, etc...

Tell her that the longer she stays unemployed, the less employable she is in the eyes of interviewers.

Anyone who chooses to live off the system (i.e. other people and future generations) for no good reason DOESN''T CARE ABOUT THE PEOPLE THEY'RE AFFECTING.

I haven't lectured the people Ive met who do it, and I don't think theyd give a fuck.

Although in my family Id talk to them directly.

  16. Sometimes it is not worth risking an otherwise good relationship with your family.

A few people in my family have severed all ties with the rest of the family due to minor differences.

If my brother was doing it, I sure would call him out on it because I have no problem with it. But if it were an older family member like an uncle, I might be hesitant to say anything.

  17. Yeah thats understandable. Nobody in my family is like that, but I know some people, and I don't say anything.

  18. I am 62 years old smoking and doin' great!

When I was WAY younger I was very poor and married to my current wife. We had kids. Did we plan well? No. Honestly, I was really F'ed up at that time at my life. I had worked hard, got married, got divorced, etc.

So, my family was on food stamps for a while and a program called WIC that provided us some food. I worked very hard to get off of all that stuff and honestly everyone that was in those programs with us did the same.

We were only on those programs for three year before I was able to work my way up to where we did not need them anymore. At this time in my life I make a very good salary and I have been very fortunate.

Because my family and I had been helped when we needed it we decided to go into the nonprofit sector and work for organizations that helped people in need.

We are all in this together. Yes, we all need to pull our own weight, of course! But we are all better collectively, when we help each other succeed.

This is not Socialist, it is just being a good neighbor as my Southern Missouri Grandmother taught me to be.

  19. Why can''t we just give to eachother? Why must the government take 40% of some peoples income?

If it is government funded, rather than voluntary donations, the money comes at the expense of future generations.

  20. Billions of dollars on a war on "drugs"

Billions if dollars on a war on "terror"

Laws that discourage companies from giving the working class jobs

    Rich people

    Take your pick
